About the position

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) is seeking an Engineering Intern in the Water/Renewable Energy Engineering Department located at the North Platte Office in North Platte, Nebraska. This internship is designed for engineering students who are looking to gain practical experience in the field while working alongside experienced engineering staff. The position is open to students pursuing a degree in civil or other relevant engineering disciplines, and it is expected to last from May 2025 to August 2025, aligning with the academic calendar of the intern. The intern will assist in applying standard engineering practices and techniques, utilizing prescribed methods to carry out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Responsibilities will include a variety of specific tasks that require a general understanding of the processes involved in the electric utility industry, as well as economic and accounting principles. The intern will be expected to manage their personal performance effectively, prepare design calculations, obtain field data, utilize engineering drawings, develop design requirements, create material lists, and coordinate with procurement departments to develop requests for quotations and cost estimates. Additionally, the intern will support Operations and Maintenance activities, providing technical support for the operation and maintenance of existing equipment or systems. This includes troubleshooting, inspection, and testing performance. The intern will also be accountable for other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the engineering team and the projects they undertake.

Responsibilities
• Assist with applying standard engineering practices and techniques utilizing prescribed methods in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.

• Perform a variety of specific tasks within each of the primary responsibilities, including preparing design calculations and obtaining field data.

• Utilize engineering drawings and develop design requirements, drawings, and material lists.

• Develop requests for quotations and coordinate with procurement departments.

• Develop cost estimates for engineering projects.

• Support Operations and Maintenance activities, providing technical support to the operation and maintenance of existing equipment or systems.

• Engage in troubleshooting, inspection, and testing performance of systems and equipment.

• Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Requirements
• Must be pursuing an engineering degree from an accredited college/university.

• Must be finishing at least the sophomore year of college.
