Alliant Energy Corp is seeking an Engineer I - Generation to work at either the Emery or Marshalltown combined cycle generating stations in Clear Lake, IA. The role involves supporting maintenance projects, understanding equipment performance, and developing maintenance plans. We are looking for an engineer to join the team at either our Emery or Marshalltown combined cycle generating stations. This position will support both facilities, as well as other facility maintenance projects on occasion. As an engineer focused on the combustion turbines, steam turbines, generators, and their auxiliary systems, you will be responsible for understanding equipment and system performance, developing maintenance plans with plant management, and carrying out maintenance projects to ensure the plant's reliability. You will keep a pulse on the performance of the equipment and systems to be aware of issues as they arise and troubleshoot with management and engineering support staff. Understanding mechanical and structural codes and standards, equipment and system maintenance practices, equipment and system performance standards, failure modes, thermal cycles, cost/benefit analysis, and testing methodology is essential for this role. Job Summary

Engineer I - Generation performs under close supervision a variety of routine engineering assignments in a structured environment, typically with a more experienced engineer's review and oversight. This position will include one or more of the following duties: designs, plans, constructs, installs, operates, monitors, evaluates, and maintains structures, facilities, systems, equipment, machinery, and components used in generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of energy.

This position will be based out of either Emery or Marshalltown sites.

What you will do
• Learns basic internal and external customer needs and expectations and strives to identify problems and solutions within assigned work.
• Uses standard practices and procedures to diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve problems limited in scope with guidance from peers and mentors.
• Applies governmental and organizational engineering standards.
• Understands the basic need of combining technical and cost-effective criteria into an overall solution.
• With guidance from supervisor, makes low-risk decisions that involve direct application of technical knowledge.
• Develops functional relationships with union employees, contractors, internal and external customers, and across departments and teams as required to perform role.
• Learns the basics of the property unit catalog and learns to categorize projects appropriately
• Accesses project financial reports to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) compliance and review costs being charged to projects.
• Acquires an understanding of appropriate communications with vendors, field construction, operations personnel, and internal stakeholders.
• Documents and tracks activities, drawings, and outcomes for future reference.
• This position may require Generation facility outage support at times that may require overnight work/stay.
• Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy's Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.

Educational Requirements
• Engineering Program that is accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission required.

Preferred Experience
• Previous technical and/or professional experience
• An internship or co-op in engineering

Pay Range:
$65,000 - $80,000

This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
