The Renewables Development Engineer position at Duke Energy offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of renewable energy projects, particularly in solar energy. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in people's lives through sustainable energy solutions. As an Engineer I or Engineer II, you will be part of a team that focuses on solar site development while also gaining exposure to wind energy generation, energy storage, and microgrids. The position is entry-level for Engineer I and requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience for Engineer II. In this role, you will provide engineering and technical expertise to identify, analyze, and resolve routine problems within your area of specialization. You will assist in achieving business goals through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of more experienced engineers. Your responsibilities will include preparing thorough and accurate technical reports, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to the resolution of technical problems. You will also conduct basic engineering studies that require minimal evaluation or ingenuity, while developing positive working relationships to coordinate work activities effectively. The position requires strong communication skills, both written and oral, and proficiency in using MS 365 applications to create technical documents. Experience with AutoCAD for preparing technical drawings is essential. As you grow in this role, you will develop familiarity with fundamental engineering concepts and practices, and you will be expected to represent the company positively and professionally while supporting its goals.

• Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.

• Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.

• Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity.

• Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures.

• Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.

• Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.

• Maintains accurate records and files.

• Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Requirements
• Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.

• A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree for both Engineer I and Engineer II positions.

• For Engineer II, a minimum of two (2) years relevant work experience is required.

• Good written and oral communication skills.

• Proficiency using MS 365 applications to create technical documents.

• Experience using AutoCAD to prepare technical drawings.
Nice-to-haves
• Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.

• Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.

• Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

• Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.

• Understanding of basic principles of construction project management.

• Experience in the utility industry.

• Multidisciplinary engineering experience.

• Proficiency with design software such as: PVcase, PVsyst, PSSE, PSCAD, ArcGIS.

• Experience with MS Power Apps, PowerBI, Dataverse, Microsoft 365, SQL Server.
