About the Role

The Energy and Sustainability Strategist focuses on decarbonization and sustainability strategies for the built environment. This individual possesses a demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex tasks, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, establish priorities, and direct the work of others. Typical tasks and deliverables that are executed by or under the supervision of the Energy and Sustainability Strategist V include energy master planning, carbon reduction strategies, renewable energy and electrification assessments, energy analysis, decarbonization roadmaps, policy evaluations, design and performance assessments, green building certifications, technology evaluations, water and waste reduction, and coordination with manufacturers and trade partners. Project work includes directing strategy development for all levels of planning and design, such as feasibility studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and operational transition. The Energy and Sustainability Strategist V understands the development and field implementation of strategies across all project phases, sizes, and levels of complexity. Within this role, there are multiple positions, and their focuses are described below.

This individual should be an Energy and Sustainability Subject Matter Expert (SME) possesses rare and exceptional technical knowledge within their chosen specialization, coupled with general industry knowledge and experience. This broad and deep knowledge provides value to clients during project sponsorship and inception to ensure that investments support business goals and account for constraints and external risks. This individual provides guidance for developing Lead and Senior Strategists to help identify and manage technical risks during execution and delivery. This role develops standard methods, trains and mentors staff, and performs quality reviews for the discipline. This role may serve in a technical leadership capacity on projects. The SME may work independently or at the direction of others and may also be externally facing via publishing and presenting technical information.

Core Activities
• Directs and manages the workflows and execution of sustainability and energy professionals (Entry-Level to Senior) to meet client expectations and project goals.
• Coordinates with internal and external parties, manages multiple complex tasks, establishes priorities, and directs the work of others.
• Understanding of a building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and architectural systems and identification of opportunities to incorporate energy and sustainability.
• Advocacy for decarbonization and sustainability to internal and external team members.
• Acts as Project Manager including proposal development, strategy identification, man-hour planning, and project scheduling for the discipline scope of work on advanced-level projects.
• Supports CRB’s Seller – Doer model and performs business development activities.
• Conduct client facing charettes and workshops to assist in sustainability goal setting.
• Attends external seminars/conferences for professional development.
• Develops internal sustainability and energy training presentations.
• Develops narratives, reports, and decarbonization roadmaps and writes technical documentation for complex projects without oversight.
• Provides advanced support of construction and operational activities such as commissioning, measurement and verification (M&V), post-occupancy evaluations, and performance benchmarking.
• Conducts technical and leadership interviews.
• Conducts quality checking of documents for advanced complex sustainability projects and drives overall project quality.
• Provides mentorship to less experienced Energy and Sustainability Strategists.
• Leads advanced project sustainability programming and master planning with minimal or no support from senior leadership.
• Delivers high quality sustainability projects incorporating advanced solutions across project goals related to energy, decarbonization, water, waste, embodied carbon, material health, and others.
• Provides oversight and technical leadership to other offices and related functions such as Business Development, Technical Advancement, and Vertical Markets.
• Provides industry-level perspective and guidance to frame business strategy in the face of evolving technology and policy landscapes.
