Who we are looking for

EOL is seeking a full-time Electricity Trader to join our operations team, responsible for covering the night shift component of the daily trading operations on a week-on, week-off basis. We are looking for a proactive and motivated individual to join our energy trading division. While prior experience in the National Electricity Market (NEM) is advantageous, it is not mandatory. The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training and access to relevant courses to ensure they develop the knowledge and skills required to perform the duties involved in this role.

What will you be doing

Your skills will revolve around making quick decisions on numbers to make sound commercial recommendations for clients. The trading room operates 24/7 to ensure around the clock coverage for clients, given this operation this role will be included in the roster which will include working weekends and some public holidays.

Energy One manages the electricity trading (bidding and dispatch) for a number of large-scale renewable generation facilities and some gas fired generation facilities across Australia. This role is important in ensuring that those facilities are appropriately managed in accordance with clients’ strategies and with the National Electricity Rules.

The Electricity Trader will be part of the team providing commercial and operational solutions to clients in the electricity sector. The Electricity Trader will need strong numerical and analytical skills to make quick decisions on numbers to make sound commercial recommendations for clients.

Key Responsibilities include:
• Undertaking activities in the NEM and WEM, to implement energy trading strategies
• Monitoring the electricity markets, customer assets and the automated electricity bidding system and taking action when required in accordance with approved strategies and procedures
• Interacting with the market operator and client operational staff
• Optimisation to maximise commercial outcomes for clients
• Market analysis to gain insights and provide information about trends and patterns
• Performing commercial and market modelling using analytical skill
• Reporting financial performance and market information to clients
• As part of the broader energy operations team, undertake activities when required in the gas markets including the STTM, DWGM and GSH and undertake activities in the European gas and electricity markets

Ideally you will have
• Strong Excel skills are essential
• Analytical, the ability to solve mathematical and commercial tasks both quickly and accurately
• Attention to detail
• Confident with client interaction
• Tertiary qualifications in one or more of the following disciplines: Economics, Engineering, Accounting, Finance, and/or Business
