Job Description

General Motors is hiring an Energy Strategy Engineer for a hybrid role based in Warren, MI, requiring in-office presence at least three times a week. The engineer will support GM's renewable energy goals, focusing on clean energy activities, managing power purchase agreements, and engaging with external partnerships. Responsibilities include forecasting analyses, policy engagement, and project management to contribute to GM's vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion.
Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

General Motors has a vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion, and your work will be a key part of this vision. As part of the Battery, Propulsion, and Sustainability organization, the Energy Strategy Engineer will be responsible for driving activities in support of GM’s renewable electricity targets, as well as broad clean energy activities.

GM has a goal of matching our facility electricity usage with 100% renewable energy in the US by 2025 and globally by 2035. The Energy Strategy Engineer will be responsible for driving activities in support of GM’s renewable energy goals, to find renewable solutions for GM’s Scope 2 emissions. Your work will be a key part of GM’s Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, Zero Congestion vision.

What You'll Do
• Develop recommendations for GM's renewable energy and sustainability goals, including working with third parties to contract renewable power purchase agreements and green tariffs
• Lead forecasting analyses for Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs) and utility green tariffs
• Lead clean energy policy engagement in support of an affordable, reliable, and decarbonized grid; interfacing with internal Global Public Policy federal and state teams as well as potential external group engagement
• Engage with external partnerships in the clean energy space to evaluate new technology and other clean energy opportunities to further GM’s emissions reduction efforts. Groups include the Clean Energy Buyers Association, Emissions First Partnership, and several others
• Manage external reporting for renewable energy initiatives, including contributing to GM’s annual public sustainability report, Security Exchange Commission (SEC) 10k filing, and Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)
• Work closely with communications team to showcase GM's sustainability efforts, including speaking publicly about our team’s work
• Project management for ad hoc energy projects
• Prepare presentations for leadership to inform or ask for approval
