Energy Management Systems (EMS) Application Engineer

Sabenza IT & Recruitment is seeking an EMS Application Engineer in Johannesburg, South Africa. ABOUT THE ROLE

As an EMS Application Engineer, you will administer, optimize, and enhance the Energy Management System environment. You will work with GE PowerOn Reliance or AEMS platforms, ensuring the reliability of high-stakes power systems through precision tuning and technical validation.

MAIN DUTIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following core deliverables:
• System Administration: Administer, configure, and optimize the EMS environment including tuning, security patching, and system updates.
• Simulation & Validation: Perform model validation and defect fixing for the Dispatcher Training Simulator (DTS) system; execute expertise in event creation within power simulation systems.
• Maintenance & Deployment: Conduct code reviews, manage deployments, and monitor break/fix patches; execute corrective actions to restore technical services on the EMS platform.
• Integration: Manage system integration, configuration, and enhancements across various power system applications while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate must demonstrate the following technical and functional skills:
• Experience: Over 5 years of experience in Power System Applications such as Power Flow, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, and Load Frequency Control (AGC).
• Technical Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with EMS platforms, specifically GE PowerOn Reliance (XA21) or AEMS; Siemens, OSI, ABB, or Schneider experience is also valuable.
• Programming & Systems: Strong background in C, C++, PERL, SQL, or Shell scripting; proficiency in Linux and Windows operating environments and relational databases like Oracle or SQL Server.
• Protocols: Practical knowledge of ICCP, IEC, DNP3, Modbus, Data Modeling, and XML/JSON protocols.
