Job Description

Sol design + consulting is seeking an Energy Engineer / Commissioning Agent in Cincinnati, OH, with at least five years of experience in commercial building systems. Responsibilities include overseeing commissioning processes, conducting ASHRAE Level II energy audits, and supporting green building certifications like LEED and ENERGY STAR. The role requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and relevant commissioning credentials. Travel is required for job site visits.
Position Summary

Sol design + consulting, a leader in green building consulting and certification, seeks an Energy Engineer / Commissioning Agent with five years minimum experience working with commercial building systems and a background in the following:

1) LEED/Commercial Building Commissioning

2) Energy Analysis & Modeling

3) Energy Auditing

4) Testing Adjusting & Balancing

This professional will oversee the commissioning process and conduct ASHRAE Level II energy audits as necessary for LEED, ENERGY STAR, and other green certifications for commercial and multifamily buildings.

The position will be located in either our Cincinnati or Cleveland office. The person who fills this role will be part of a dynamic team delivering best-in-class green building and sustainability expertise. We are a rapidly growing company, and this position has strong long-term prospects. Salary range is from $65,000 to $90,000 per year commensurate with qualifications, experience and business development potential.

Responsibilities
• Create and execute commissioning plans and reports to meet diverse Owner Project Requirements (OPRs) and LEED requirements.
• Review design criteria, drawings, specifications, equipment submittals and other information relevant to commissioning and energy modeling.
• Develop and administer Functional Testing protocols for commercial HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, renewable energy systems, building enclosures, and building controls.
• Conduct ASHRAE Level I and Level II energy audits, and present actionable recommendations based on findings.
• Create and review energy models (i.e. ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G; ANSI/RESNET/ICC 301), to evaluate program compliance in support of green building certifications.
• Review and compile energy systems’ documentation packages for green building certification programs such as LEED, Energy Star and Enterprise Green Communities.
• Support colleagues and clients navigating thorough ASHRAE standards and technical issues as needed.
• Evaluate and optimize necessary improvements to residential and commercial HVAC, domestic hot water, lighting, controls, photovoltaics, and other energy systems.
• Oversee Energy Incentive Programs such as Inflation Reduction Act – 179D, 45L, HUD-GRRP, etc.
• Travel regularly to job sites approximately one to two days per week, with overnight travel about one night per two weeks.

Qualifications
• Passion for sustainability, green building and energy conservation
• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• Commissioning Agent with one of the following credentials, or equivalent:
• Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer,
• ASHRAE Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP),
• Qualified Commissioning Process Provider (QCxP),
• Experience writing and implementing Commissioning Plans for three or more commercial buildings
• 5+ years experience related to a range of commercial building systems (i.e. envelope, electronics, airflow, refrigeration, building controls)
• Experience conducting and creating reports for ASHRAE Level I & II energy audits
• Organized and meticulous -- tracking of energy-related and certification-related documents throughout the course of projects
• Ability to effectively communicate technical/ program concepts in written and verbal form
• Software skills -- MS Office (Word, Excel), CAD, Revit, & energy simulation software (i.e. Trace 700, Trace 3D, EQuest, IES, DesignBuilder)
• LEED Accredited Professional preferred
