Job Description
Portland General Electric is seeking an Energy Analyst to manage risks and maximize value in their power supply portfolio. Responsibilities include developing proposals for energy deals, conducting market research, and supporting contract negotiations. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in a related field and experience in financial analysis or energy markets. The position is full-time with a hybrid work environment requiring in-office attendance three days a week.

The Energy Analyst position leads the commercial and strategic approach for maximizing value and effectively managing risks associated with PGE's power supply portfolio. This role involves developing structured proposals for deals involving any combination of energy (electric, gas, and services) that provide mid- to long-term strategies for fueling power plants and effectively managing the power supply portfolio. The Energy Analyst will develop models and market strategies to assess economic value and price risks inherent in complex transactions and negotiations across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
• Perform specific tasks related to the design, market, and implementation of energy and risk management products and strategies to reduce costs, optimize assets, and reduce risks associated with PGE's resource portfolio and wholesale market activities.

• Conduct research and analysis that support contract negotiations, competitive bidding, procurement activities, and related transactions.

• Research changing market dynamics or fundamental drivers that could impact price or availability of fuel and related assets and provide data and analysis.

• Support outbound marketing activities; conduct analysis of wholesale energy markets; conduct environmental scanning to recommend opportunities for bilateral partnerships, contracts, and asset transactions.

• Perform support activities related to or participate in industry forums and conferences and regulatory proceedings.
Requirements
• Requires a bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, computer science, mathematics, engineering or other related field or equivalent experience.

• An MBA or MS in finance, economics or related financial discipline preferred.
,
• Typically two or fewer years in economics, trading, financial analysis or related field.
,
• Working knowledge of financial concepts, including options, swaps, futures, forward contracts and asset valuation methods.

• Working financial and risk modeling skills.
,
• Working skills in analyzing energy market conditions or trends.
,
• Working skills in promoting and selling products and services, including marketing strategy and tactics.
,
• Basic skills in negotiating contracts.

• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks affecting energy markets.
