Job Description

NREL's is seeking a skilled professional with a robust background in security systems integration and emergency management to lead critical security and systems integration projects for the Office of Laboratory Protection. This position involves full-cycle management of security operations projects, including the review, enhancement, and implementation of access control systems, intrusion detection, and emergency response protocols. The successful candidate will play a key role in integrating security systems with emergency management plans to ensure a comprehensive safety net for laboratory operations.

Essential duties and responsibilities will include:

Security System & Emergency Management Integration and Project Leadership:
• Lead security and systems integration projects by overseeing the entire lifecycle, from planning through execution to completion, ensuring alignment between security and emergency management systems. This includes managing project goals, timelines, and budget requirements to successfully deliver integrated solutions.
• Review, evaluate, and upgrade access control systems, ensuring compliance with security protocols and DOE regulations.

Cross-Functional Communication and Collaboration:
• Act as a key liaison between cross-functional teams, facilitating open communication and alignment on project objectives.
• Ensure all stakeholders, including internal teams and external partners, understand project timelines, deliverables, and technical requirements.

Risk Management and Issue Resolution:
• Identify, evaluate, and mitigate security risks and operational issues, promptly escalating to management as needed.
• Manage and investigate incidents related to security concerns, providing resolution and insights for continuous operational improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Building:
• Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, contractors, and lab personnel, to enhance project outcomes.
• Regularly interface with all levels of lab personnel, balancing the lab’s security requirements with its research mission in a responsive, customer-focused manner.

Policy Development:
• Contribute to the creation, review, and update of security policies and procedures, ensuring they align with best practices, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.

Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintaining accurate documentation of security system activities, including after-action reports, improvement plans, and compliance records.

Basic Qualifications Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 9 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques and standards. Considered internal subject matter expert. Extensive knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Excellent leadership, project management and problem solving skills. Ability to use various computer software programs.
• Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.

Additional Required Qualifications
• Relevant Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field (or equivalent relevant work experience).
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in a security field.
• Extensive experience and knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures, and practices related to security and DOE O 470.4B and 473.1A.
• Demonstrated strong project management, and problem-solving skills, as well as proficiency in using various computer software programs essential for security system integration (e.g. C-Cure 9000 and CCTV technologies).
• Ability to obtain and maintain Q/SCI Clearance

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week) Job Profile: Professional IV / Annual Salary Range: $79,600 - $143,300

NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
