Description

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) is hiring an Elk Project Technician to assist with all aspects of its elk restoration project based at the Tomblin Wildlife Management Area. This labor-based position supports wildlife operations and fieldwork as part of one of the state’s most ambitious conservation efforts.

Housing, utilities, and uniforms are provided. This is an hourly, non-benefited role, ideal for wildlife graduates seeking hands-on experience in species restoration.

Responsibilities
• Assist with immobilization, handling, tagging, and recovery of adult and juvenile elk
• Support elk transportation and movement monitoring
• Maintain bait sites and trail cameras during winter months
• Use GIS and radio-collar data to track elk movements
• Perform general grounds and facility maintenance
• Provide support to the Natural Resource Specialist on-site
• Work independently in various weather conditions and rugged outdoor settings

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, ecology, or a related natural resources field
• Strong interest in large mammal conservation and hands-on fieldwork
• Physical stamina to work in challenging outdoor conditions
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Basic familiarity with GPS, GIS, and wildlife monitoring equipment

• Requires extended fieldwork in remote, all-weather conditions
