Job Description
Kairos Power is hiring an Early Career Electrical Power Engineer in Albuquerque, NM, to support facilities construction and operations. The role involves designing electrical systems, managing vendors, and ensuring compliance with safety and building codes. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 3 years of relevant experience. The position requires collaboration with other engineers and oversight of electrical design and maintenance.

Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.
Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking an Early Career Electrical Power Engineer to support facilities construction and operations. The Electrical Power Engineer will support the construction and modification of building electrical systems and driving the execution and quality of all general, preventative, and emergency maintenance for facilities electrical equipment. Your role will require you to communicate and work closely with other engineers to support design, construction, commissioning, or maintenance of Electrical systems in our Albuquerque, NM facility.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate with internal clients to determine electrical needs
• Design medium and low voltage power distribution systems
• Review electrical designs provided by outside consultants
• Produce 1-line electrical drawings and load calculations.
• Contract with and manage outside vendors for electrical work
• Specify and supervise implementation and test of internal building power distribution, lighting and electrical power controls e.g. Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) motor controls
• Perform electrical design for building and site infrastructure, including design medium and low voltage power distribution systems, produce 1-line electrical drawings and load calculations and integrate these to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations
• Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to develop, design & construction document packages to meet internal requirements, including relevant building codes, environmental regulations, safety regulations, and corporate standards
• Specify and supervise implementation and test of internal building power distribution, lighting and electrical power controls e.g. Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) motor controls
• Perform engineering analysis, calculations, create construction drawings and specifications, and/or review electrical designs from consultants
• Oversee design and construction efforts, to meet established scope, schedule, and cost outcomes
• Manage and interface with external, contracted resources for the completion of construction work
• Inspect construction progress in accordance with design requirements, codes, and customer needs, and site standards
• Review, troubleshoot, and understand building and infrastructure electrical systems to ensure they will meet needs and expectations and remain in compliance with relevant Building and Safety Codes
Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field
• 3+ years of experience in design, construction, commissioning, or maintenance of Electrical systems in a manufacturing (or equivalent) environment. Professional Engineering experience is preferred in industrial/commercial and or lab/R&D environments.
• Must be familiar with safety protocols for high, medium, and low voltage connections such as arc flash, personal protective equipment, and lockout-tagout.
• Knowledge of national electrical code standards
• Experience in utilizing AutoCad or similar drafting software
• Experience with industrial and/or hazardous locations preferred
• Construction Administration experience preferred
• Ability to work with highly collaborative team
• Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
• Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others
• Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
• Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues
Physical Conditions
• Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts and the like
• Setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding, ladders)
• Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
• Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
• Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
• Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to40 pounds in all directions
• Communicating with others to exchange information
Environmental Conditions
• General office environment
• Outdoor environment or elements such as precipitation and wind
• Noisy environments
• Accessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned
• High-concentration, demanding and fast-paced
Safety and PPE
• Reading and interpreting hazardous warning signs
• Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
• Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes
Travel
• Some travel may be required (5%)
Additional Requirements
• Seldomly requires working weekends
• Occasionally requires schedule flexibility
• Seldomly requires extended hours to support launch and critical project timelines
