Job Description

Clark Dietz, Inc. is seeking an Ecologist/NEPA Specialist for their Transportation Team in Indiana. The role involves preparing NEPA documents, conducting ecological investigations, and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team on infrastructure projects. Candidates should have a B.S. in Environmental Science, three years of experience, and proficiency in ArcGIS and MS Office. The position offers flexible work arrangements and a competitive salary ranging from $26.81 to $36.19 per hour.

We currently have an opportunity for an Ecologist/NEPA Specialist to join our Transportation Team in Indiana. Responsibilities include leading investigations and research in compliance with NEPA to support federally funded INDOT and local infrastructure projects.

Primary Responsibilities
• Prepares NEPA documents for a variety of projects ranging from minor programmatic projects to complex Categorical Exclusions.[PWD1]
• Performs ecological investigations and wetland delineations for project sites.
• Analyzes field data to prepare wetland delineation reports and appropriate waterway permits (e.g., Section 401/404 permits, Construction in a Floodway permits, other state/local permits in Indiana).
• Assists Project Managers to develop scope, schedule, and budget for assigned projects.
• Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team (Project Managers, Engineers, Historians) to coordinate tasks and deliverables.
• Communicates and coordinates potential risks and solutions with Project Managers.

Position Requirements
• B.S. Degree in Environmental Science, or a related field is required.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience conducting environmental or ecological investigations is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws and standards related to discipline.
• Is qualified or can become qualified for preparation of categorical exclusion type environmental documents of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) per INDOT requirements.
• Prequalification with INDOT for either 5.4 (Ecological Studies) or 5.6 (waterway permitting) is preferred.
• Ability to rely on experience and independent judgment to perform tasks without supervision.
• Proficiency with ArcGIS and MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to project sites as needed.
