Job Description
Digby Wells Environmental is seeking a Fauna and Flora Ecologist in South Africa. The role involves conducting biodiversity assessments, managing projects, and compiling reports. Candidates should have 4-5 years of relevant experience, a B.Sc. Hons degree (M.Sc. preferred), and registration with a professional body. The position requires travel within Africa and expertise in environmental management and species identification.

We are looking for a dynamic Fauna and Flora Ecologist to join our team. The perfect candidate will be required to provide expert advice and assistance in the management and compilation of reports such as Biodiversity Assessments, Action plans, and EMPs specifically within (but not limited to) an African context.
Job Objectives
• Study and identify the different plant and animal species on a specific site;
• Conduct field surveys to collect data on certain Species of Special Concern;
• Classifying the organisms according to their species and characteristics (taxonomy);
• Apply sampling strategies and employ habitat survey techniques GPS, aerial photography, sonar images, and maps etc;
• Conduct and manage assessments as part of a project such as (Botanical, Faunal and Biodiversity assessments etc.);
• Compile and review reports for submission to client and/or legal authorities; and
• Project, client and public management.
• Specialists' knowledge of Fauna and Flora (Botany preferred);
• Plant species identification skills;
• Environmental Management experience;
• Project management experience;
• Detailed understanding of applicable environmental legislation;
• Research methodologies;
• Knowledge of land management would be advantageous;
• Understanding of Biodiversity Action Plans; and
• Willing to travel within Africa.
Experience:
• 4 – 5 years experience in a similar position.
• Consulting experience would be beneficial.
Qualifications:
• Registration with a professional body like SACNASP.
• B.Sc. Hons degree (M.Sc. preferred) in related field .
• MSc. Degree would be beneficial.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
