Position Overview

We are looking for a committed Ecological Restoration Specialist to join our team full-time (40+ hours per week). Heartland crew leaders support our senior ecologists and project managers through the restoration of native ecosystems.

Responsibilities include assisting with on-site restoration efforts such as:
• Invasive species management
• Native species planting and seeding
• Habitat enhancement and monitoring
• Prescribed burning
• Erosion control and soil stabilization
• Equipment transport and operation such as UTV’s, ATV’s, tractors, and truck and trailers

Qualifications
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience required
• Degree in biology, ecology, natural resources, or related field
• Proficient in native and nonnative plant identification
• Field-ready: adaptable to remote, diverse field conditions
• Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
• National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group courses: S-130, S-190, and L-180, or similar
• Proficient with typical ecological restoration tasks, such as herbicide applications, equipment operation, invasive species management, and prescribed burning
• Strong communication and technical writing skills
• Valid driver’s license; ability to walk up to five miles and lift up to 50 lbs
