True Environmental is seeking a mid-career Ecological Project Manager in San Diego, CA. The role involves managing projects, conducting field surveys, and evaluating environmental impacts. We are looking for a mid-career ecologist with a strong background in the ecosystems of southern California to join an interdisciplinary team of scientists and landscape architects working on restoration and natural resource management projects throughout the United States.
What you'll do
• Assist with assembling teams
• Manage projects and developing deliverables across all our projects.
• Conduct field surveys to identify sensitive ecological features
• Evaluate potential environmental impacts of proposed landscape designs and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Conduct surveys to identify and document presence of threatened or endangered species on a site.

Minimum Requirements
• Master’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or related field with 2 years of project management experience, ideally on projects with a budget of $50,000+ and5 years of relevant experience in ecological risk assessment, environmental permitting, environmental policy, environmental litigation, ecological restoration, or environmental management outside of the academic environment.
OR
• Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or related field; 2+ years of project management experience, ideally on projects with a budget of $50,000+ and 7+ years of relevant experience in ecological risk management, environmental permitting, environmental policy, environmental litigation, ecological restoration, or environmental management outside of the academic environment in positions of increasing responsibility that have included report authoring.
Preferred Requirements
• Demonstrated experience coordinating and managing field efforts (e.g., ecological or biological assessments, training staff and other onsite workers, etc.)
• Ability to assess areas for their potential as viable restoration or mitigation sites, and understand the local, state, and federal regulations that will guide the project
• Environmental litigation strategy and expert witness support
• Relevant professional certifications (e.g., professional wetland scientist, certified environmental professional, etc.)
• Experience with CEQA and NEPA
• Experience with wetland functional assessments, ecological/economic modeling, and market assessments
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, CAD, and reading construction documents
• General knowledge of the flora and fauna of the western United States;
• Demonstrated experience in networking with regional organizations;
• Exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills
• Experience presenting technical information to stakeholders in an accessible, clear manner
• Ability to promote a client-centered approach and the ability to present scientific solutions to clients in a clear, professional manner
• Excellent organizational skills, time management, ability to budget workloads, and offer mentorship to junior staff on ecological restoration projects
• Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring interdisciplinary teams in ecological projects, fostering collaboration and ensuring efficient execution to achieve project goals
• Adaptable to working well both independently and in a team environment
• Our ideal candidate has technical expertise and experience in freshwater and/or desert environments of southern California and/or the southwest.
$65,000 - $90,000 a year
