About the position
The Environmental Outreach Specialist at the Washington State Climate Office (WASCO) is responsible for enhancing communication and engagement regarding climate science and its impacts. This entry-level position focuses on producing high-quality information for local, state, and tribal partners, participating in applied research, and addressing climate information needs. The role involves developing newsletters, managing social media, and contributing to reports and presentations, all aimed at increasing the profile of the office and the University of Washington through effective communication and research.
Responsibilities
• Develop the WASCO monthly newsletter, including gathering climate data and preparing content for publication.

• Create monthly 'Climate Matters' reports that provide in-depth analyses and visualizations of climate topics.

• Develop syntheses of recent weather events and climate science.
,
• Assist in preparing and delivering presentations on climate science and impacts.
,
• Collaborate on reports and publications, including newsletters and journal articles.
,
• Manage WASCO's social media presence and develop content to raise awareness about climate issues.
,
• Track and synthesize WASCO activities to articulate impacts and engagement efforts.
,
• Organize and manage updates for the WASCO website and slide decks.
,
• Plan and execute workshops and meetings.
,
• Coordinate a citizen science precipitation measuring program across Washington.
Requirements
• Master's Degree in meteorology, climate science, or a related field with one year of experience.

• Training in climate science or a related discipline.
,
• Strong oral and written communication skills for engaging diverse audiences.
,
• Experience analyzing and interpreting data.
,
• Experience synthesizing scientific research findings.
,
• Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.

• Problem-solving skills and adaptability to new challenges.

• Attention to detail and technical accuracy.

• Familiarity with Washington state's climate and climate-related resources.

• Experience working with WordPress.
