About the position

The Environmental Consultant position within the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is a highly technical role focused on environmental management and stewardship. This position is situated within the Division of Waste Management, specifically in the Waste Cleanup Program. The Environmental Consultant will serve as a contract and project manager for various site investigation projects, requiring a deep understanding of environmental site assessment and project management. The role involves conducting phases of site assessment fieldwork alongside other team members and engaging with the public, department personnel, contractors, municipalities, and government officials to facilitate these activities. In this capacity, the Environmental Consultant will work closely with technical and professional personnel to investigate and assess sources of contamination throughout the state. The position demands a proactive approach to managing complex projects, with an emphasis on innovation and efficiency. The consultant will be responsible for overseeing the development of work plans, including sampling strategies and remediation options, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. This role also includes the review and approval of work plans, safety plans, and quality assurance/quality control plans submitted by contractors. The Environmental Consultant will be expected to maintain accurate documentation of communications with affected parties during investigations and ensure the environmental effectiveness of projects. Responsibilities

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, environmental science, or one of the natural sciences.

• Two years of verifiable related experience in environmental consulting or site investigations.

• Knowledge of geology, hydrogeology, chemistry, and Florida's groundwater.

• Knowledge of environmental assessment procedures and techniques.

• Skilled in data analysis and technical report writing.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and GIS software.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple sites and deadlines.

• Valid Driver License.
