E&S Specialist

Smart4Energy is hiring an ESG Specialist in Cape Town, South Africa. The role focuses on implementing the company's ESG strategy, ensuring compliance with environmental and social standards, and providing support across project development stages. Key responsibilities include managing E&S activities, developing risk management procedures, and overseeing data collection for sustainability reporting. Candidates should have a relevant degree and 5+ years of experience in the power or mining sectors.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated ESG Specialist. This role will be pivotal in the implementation of the company’s ESG strategy and associated policies to ensure compliance with national and international Environmental and Social (E&S) standards. The position will provide practical E&S support across all stages of project development, construction, operations and maintenance, asset management, and other key business areas.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with the day-to-day management of the company’s E&S activities.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and social standards (e.g., IFC PS) in the renewable power sector.
• Develop and integrate E&S risk management procedures into business processes.
• Stay updated on ESG trends, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
• Support ESG KPI achievement through training, workshops, and collaborative initiatives.
• Assist with ESG due diligence, ESIA, ESMS, and ESAP for new and ongoing projects.
• Oversee ESG/Impact data collection and contribute to the annual Sustainability Report.

Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s or Honours degree in Environmental and/or Social Science (Master’s preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in the power or mining sectors (international experience is a plus).

Working Conditions:
• Office-based in Cape Town with international and local travel.
