Job Description

World Renew is seeking a Disaster Response Services Coordinator in Canada to build strategic partnerships, engage volunteers, and secure funding for disaster response efforts. The role involves relationship building with NGOs, coordinating volunteer assignments, facilitating grant distribution, and promoting awareness and fundraising initiatives. The position welcomes diverse applicants and emphasizes a commitment to justice advocacy and community engagement, particularly with First Nations.
PURPOSE:

Support the mission of World Renew Disaster Response Services (DRS) in Canada by cultivating and maintaining strategic partnerships with coalitions and disaster response organizations. Your role will involve identifying and capitalizing on opportunities for volunteer engagement and securing funding in response to both natural and human-made disasters.

• *Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• *Disaster Response Services:**

1. Relationship Building: Serve as a key representative of World Renew, fostering and sustaining strong, positive relationships with provincial and national disaster response NGO alliances, staff from other disaster response organizations, Diaconal Ministries Canada, and World Renew colleagues.
2. Coordination and Collaboration: Partner with the DRS Director and team to ensure cohesive efforts and shared learning across the organization.
3. Volunteer Engagement: Identify and recommend opportunities for volunteer disaster response within Canada, focusing on short-term and diverse placements. Collaborate with DRS staff to coordinate volunteer assignments.
4. Grant Distribution: Identify and recommend Canadian organizations or initiatives that are suitable recipients for disaster response grants. Work closely with the DRS Director to facilitate the allocation and distribution of grant funds to these organizations.
5. Volunteer Communication: Maintain proactive and supportive communication with Canadian volunteers, ensuring they are well-informed about DRS activities, developments, and opportunities.
6. Fundraising and Awareness: Work alongside DRS and marketing/fundraising teams to promote giving opportunities within Canadian churches and other key constituent groups.
7. Justice Advocacy: Stay informed on justice-related issues within the disaster response sector, and share potential advocacy initiatives with the team.
8. Community Engagement: Actively seek opportunities to respond to the needs of First Nations communities within Canada.
• *Supervisory Responsibilities:


This role does not include direct staff supervisory responsibilities but will involve supporting and encouraging volunteer leadership across Canada.
• *Qualifications:

4. NGO Experience: Knowledge of the Canadian NGO sector, with a preference for experience in disaster response.
• *Education and Experience:**

1. A college degree is preferred.
2. A minimum of two years of experience in the non-governmental organization sector, preferably within disaster response.
• *Language Skills:


Fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates who are also fluent in French.
