Responsibilities
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Disaster Recovery Specialist is responsible for identifying, minimizing, and acting upon potential risk to critical business applications, and developing and implementing enterprise-wide IT recovery practices to restore TransLink’s information technology systems in the event of a disaster.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Implements, sustains, and improves enterprise-wide IT disaster recovery practices for restoring critical business systems; provides recommendations and solutions on how to mitigate the exposure to potential risks, and develops risk management tactics and plans to prevent business disruptions.
Supports the Senior Manager, IT Resilience, with recovery and contingency efforts and real-time recovery event management, including coordinating a team of professionals from across the enterprise in the event of a disaster, communicating the summary information to all internal and external IT recovery support groups, identifying the appropriate level of resources to maintain continuity of essential functions, and tracking the overall recovery process.
Leads and develops regular and periodic testing exercises to validate the capability of the recovery and contingency plans; implements approved solutions and reports back on the results.
Develops relationships with technical teams across the enterprise and provides progress, updates, advice, and information to the Senior Manager, IT Resilience
Develops and maintains all policies, procedures, methodologies, and documentation, including the disaster recovery plan and information and technology recovery runbooks and IT business continuity plans. Establishes and manages a central online disaster recovery repository to house and maintain all information.
Identifies, documents, and works toward critical IT recovery performance targets and ensures effective monitoring systems are developed and in place. Provides regular metrics, KPI/KRI reporting.
Provides training and education of the disaster recovery management program and BCP/DR industry best practices; maintains awareness of industry recovery standards and potential issues.
Lead the implementation of key Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity initiatives, including work across technical and business teams, with regular reporting.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The requirements for this job are typically acquired through a bachelor degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in technology, engineering, business, finance, or related discipline, with a focus on IT technologies and practices; 5 years of related experience at progressive levels of accountability with a strong background in delivering business continuity and disaster recovery services across business continuity management domains, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Expert knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, and technologies of a Data Centre practice as applied to Disaster Recovery planning and execution.
Proven experience in developing and implementing an IT disaster recovery plan, executing the plan in a test or ‘live’ mode, and conducting assessments of the architecture, solutions, and technical capabilities.
Knowledge of the business functions, strategies, services, and products in IT products and services covering data centre infrastructure, application system support, architectural frameworks, and disaster recovery best practices
Knowledgeable in current IT trends and technologies, including Microsoft technology tools, Azure Cloud, and Backup software.
Comfortable documenting project plans, workflows, report templates, dashboards, and other artifacts in support of DR practice
Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
Integrity, sound judgment, and decision-making ability.
BCI, ITIL or DRII certification or equivalent BC/DR experience
Experienced leading projects and project teams would be an asset.
Familiarity in using business continuity management-related international standards an asset.
Other Information
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.
Work Schedule
37.5 hours per week.
Work Designation
Remote
This positions offers the ability to work predominately in a remote capacity within B.C. The business will request onsite presence at times for operational reasons.
Rate of Pay
Salary $80,400 - $123,600 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
