Job Description

The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is seeking a Director of Sustainability and CSR to develop and implement environmental and social responsibility strategies. Key responsibilities include enhancing the organization's brand, engaging stakeholders, managing sustainability initiatives, and establishing sustainability goals. The role requires collaboration across departments and with external organizations. Candidates should have a relevant bachelor's degree and extensive experience in sustainability within large facilities.
The Director of Sustainability and CSR is responsible for coordinating a unified environmental and social responsibility strategy for the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. This individual works closely with all departments to strategically develop and execute sustainability objectives for the organization to be a neighbor of choice, an employer of choice, and a local and industry leader.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Build and expand the visibility of the MCCNO’s brand and reputation in corporate social responsibility and serve as the sustainability spokesperson to the external community (i.e., conferences, press, etc.)
• Identify and align key stakeholders (including NGO’s, civic organizations, governmental agencies, and hospitality groups) to strengthen community and environmental support through extensive engagement and serve as the primary owner and strategist towards this objective.
• Work with local and industry organizations to create a positive sustainability community to attract events and business to New Orleans.

Develop strategic sustainability-based marketplace differentiator master plan, performance metrics and tracking tools to be maintained for reports, documents, records

and engagement strategy with a focus on and in collaboration with critical internal and external stakeholders.

Develop, execute, and manage CSR/Sustainability initiatives that fit within the business model and strategic goals of the Authority.
• Establish achievable company-wide sustainability design and maintenance goals and policies, to include: coordinating initiatives on new construction projects, existing assets and sustainability programs .
• Standardize MCCNO sustainability practices and green standard operating procedures.

Research trends and public policy that would assist in reducing social and environmental risk and work with leadership to incorporate into organizational growth and change.
• Implement newest technologies, improve energy efficiency and consumption, environmental impact, and conceptualize cost savings opportunities.
• Provide input to product standards for portfolio in all stages of the life cycle to reflect sustainable priorities.

ACCOUNTABILITIES FOR SUPERVISION

Participate in decisions related to the selection, promotion, transfer, pay and discipline of assigned personnel.

Personally conduct or oversee training for new employees to ensure established procedures are clearly understood and followed.

Monitor the work performance of assigned event personnel on a continual basis, conduct effective performance appraisals, and take corrective action whenever necessary.

Create a working climate in which assigned personnel are motivated to develop their skills and abilities and demonstrate by personal example the desired standards of conduct and work performance.

Administer MCCNO policies in a fair and equitable manner with regard to discipline, tardiness, absenteeism or insubordination and fully document all incidents and actions taken.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; and six to ten years related experience and/or training in a convention center and/or large multi-purpose facility desired. Minimum of five years in a supervisory level position required. LEED Accredited Professional (AP) credential required.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills and Abilities

Educate leadership on effectively incorporating environmental and social responsibility into core business functions and culture of the organization.

Establish and ensure adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.

Demonstrate a strong understanding and passion for corporate responsibility, including knowledge of regulatory and societal issues, and help to develop the team’s understanding of these issues.
