Director of Service Operations & Maintenance (Commercial Solar)

Location: Hawthorne, NJ - Remote/Hybrid Flexibility

About the Role:

We are seeking a strategic and skilled Director of Service Operations and Maintenance to join our growing team. This leadership role is responsible for driving the growth, performance, and operational excellence of our service offerings. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in PV systems, a strong business mindset, and proven experience managing high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Leadership & Growth
• Lead and manage the O&M division for commercial and utility-scale PV assets.
• Drive business growth by developing new service offerings and winning long-term O&M contracts.
• Develop standardized pricing models, proposal templates, and service scopes.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to build financial models, service packages, and margin targets.

Technical Oversight
• Oversee the commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance optimization of large-scale PV systems.
• Interpret and analyze complex technical data, including IV curves, insulation resistance tests, thermography, and relay/fault reports.
• Develop troubleshooting protocols and ensure root cause analysis is completed for underperforming systems.
• Manage third-party testing and diagnostic vendors and coordinate field investigations as needed.

Operations Management
• Oversee field teams, including service technicians and performance analysts, ensuring safe and effective execution of all O&M tasks.
• Establish workflows and SOPs for dispatch, preventive maintenance, corrective actions, and remote monitoring.
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting, client communication, and billing for all service work.
• Maintain up-to-date asset documentation and compliance records

Warranty & Vendor Management
• Manage third-party warranty claims with equipment manufacturers (inverters, modules, switchgear, etc.).
• Negotiate and manage subcontractor agreements for specialized field services or testing

Team Building & Development
• Hire, train, and manage O&M field and support staff.
• Develop onboarding programs, technical training, and safety protocols.
• Conduct performance evaluations and build a high-performing service culture.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in commercial and/or utility-scale solar PV operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
• Proven ability to lead service teams and scale O&M operations.
• Deep understanding of PV system components (inverters, combiner boxes, trackers, etc.).
• Strong technical knowledge of diagnostic tools and performance metrics, including IV curve tracers, relay coordination studies, and SCADA monitoring.
• Experience managing O&M budgets, contracts, and customer deliverables
• NABCEP PV Installation Professional or O&M Specialist Certification, preferred.
• Experience with asset management platforms (e.g., Power Factors, AlsoEnergy, Inaccess), preferred.
• Familiarity with CMMS platforms and client billing systems, preferred.
