Job Description
Keller Executive Search is seeking a Director of Environmental Strategy & Community Impact in Zionsville, IN. This role involves developing sustainability frameworks, leading initiatives for top-tier certifications, and collaborating with teams to enhance environmental practices. The director will engage with local communities, manage outreach programs, and drive strategic sustainability initiatives. Candidates should have extensive experience in environmental services and community engagement, with a strong focus on ESG reporting.

Our client is looking for an innovative Director of Environmental Strategy & Community Impact to develop sustainability frameworks and generate quantifiable results for stakeholders, investors, local communities, and environmental stewardship. This role will report directly to the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer and will be responsible for managing all sustainability initiatives, collaborating with senior leadership to motivate teams toward ongoing enhancement in environmental practices and community involvement.
Core Responsibilities
• Collaborate with our European global sustainability team on ESG reporting requirements
• Lead efforts to achieve top-tier sustainability certifications (EcoVadis, CDP)
• Establish data-driven roadmaps with well-defined KPIs ensuring collective ownership of sustainability journey
• Formulate and implement comprehensive sustainability strategy to position the organization as an industry leader
• Translate sustainability metrics into compelling business narratives
• Identify partnership and M&A opportunities to expand sustainability offerings
• Develop sustainable revenue streams from new sustainability-driven services
• Partner with commercial teams to create new revenue streams leveraging sustainability as key value proposition
• Lead educational initiatives about industrial waste management and environmental protection
• Build partnerships with local governments, NGOs, and community groups
• Enhance public awareness and positive perception through surveys
• Develop comprehensive community engagement strategies fostering positive relationships and trust
• Oversee outreach programs addressing community needs with transparent communication
• Drive strategic initiatives across operations, sales, and functional departments
• Act as internal and external thought leader on sustainability topics
• Assess and build high-performing sustainability team
Requirements
• Qualifications
• Experience in industrial waste management, hazardous waste, or environmental services
• Deep understanding of ESG reporting, sustainability practices, and environmental regulations
• Proven track record leading teams and driving strategic initiatives
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Public Policy, or related field
• Extensive experience in community outreach and engagement
• 10+ years in sustainability, CSR, external relations, or similar roles
• Experience with sustainability certifications (EcoVadis, CDP)
• Ability to translate sustainability into business growth opportunities
• Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of carbon accounting methodologies and sustainability software platforms
• LEED, ISSP, or similar professional certifications
• Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management, MBA, or related discipline
• Work Arrangement
• Primary Location: Indianapolis, Indiana headquarters
• Remote Consideration: Exceptional candidates considered with commitment to 50%+ travel/onsite presence
• Travel Requirements: Regular travel to headquarters and facilities as needed
