Job Description Director of Construction - Commercial & Industrial Rooftop Solar The Director of Construction will lead and manage all aspects of commercial and industrial rooftop solar projects from pre-construction through commissioning. As a critical member of the deployment team, you will be responsible for ensuring that each project is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. This role requires a deep understanding of rooftop solar construction, including estimating, procurement, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination.

Responsibilities Oversee the end-to-end execution of C&I rooftop solar construction projects from planning through closeout. Collaborate with internal teams during pre-construction to support design reviews, constructability analysis, and cost estimation. Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, integrating design, permitting, procurement, construction, and commissioning milestones.

Lead estimating efforts to develop accurate and competitive project budgets based on site conditions, system design, and labor/material requirements. Manage procurement activities including bid solicitation, vendor selection, contract negotiation, and delivery logistics to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials and subcontracted services. Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, construction crews, and vendors to ensure safety, quality, and productivity on active job sites.

Conduct job site inspections to verify work quality, ensure compliance with engineering drawings and specifications, and manage punch list closeout. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards, codes, and regulations including OSHA, NEC, and local AHJs. Organize and lead regular project meetings with clients, contractors, utilities, and internal stakeholders to review progress and resolve issues.

Maintain accurate project documentation including schedules, budgets, reports, permits, change orders, QA/QC logs, and commissioning records. Drive project risk management efforts by identifying potential issues early and implementing mitigation plans. Support continuous improvement by contributing to process refinement, lessons learned, and construction best practices specific to rooftop solar.

Requirements Extensive knowledge of rooftop solar construction for commercial and industrial buildings, including structural, electrical, and roofing interfaces. Proficiency in project estimation, procurement management, and construction scheduling. Strong understanding of solar PV system components, electrical interconnection requirements, and BOS (balance of system) materials.

Working knowledge of building codes, OSHA standards, NFPA, NEC, and local permitting practices. Ability to manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously across different geographic locations. Competency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts.

Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. 2-5 years of construction management experience, specifically in C&I rooftop solar or other renewable energy projects.
