Job Description
ICON is seeking a Director of Concrete Sustainability based in Austin, TX. This role involves collaborating with teams to develop eco-friendly materials and improve energy efficiency in 3D printed homes. Responsibilities include reducing carbon footprints, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and leading sustainability initiatives. Candidates should have a degree in Engineering or related fields, with expertise in building materials and sustainability practices.
ICON is looking for a Director of Sustainability who will be responsible for ensuring that ICON 3D printed homes are the most environmentally friendly homes on the market. The role will require close collaboration with the Material Science team to develop eco-friendly materials as well as work with the Architecture and Building Performance team to ensure the energy efficiency of a 3D printed wall system and the overall built environment. This position is based out of our Austin, TX campus, and will report to the Chief Technology Officer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide recommendations for reducing the carbon footprint from the material, building to city scale.
• Write reports detailing the results of evaluations and present them to management, along with recommendations for improvement.
• Set guidelines or benchmarks for a company's environmental impact for the material and the built environment.
• Ensure company's compliance with all state and federal environmental statutes and regulations.
• Identify inefficiencies or areas where the company can improve its environmental impact.
• Develop and deploy sustainability department budget.
• Work with various departments to incorporate sustainability practices for additive manufacturing and set conservation and environmental goals.
• Lead training sessions or workshops on sustainability practices for employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
• BS or MS in Engineering or related science.
• In depth knowledge of building materials (concrete) with a focus on embodied energy analysis and CO2 equivalent calculations.
• Insight into low-carbon and carbon storing construction building materials.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• PhD in Engineering with focus on sustainability, or MBA with a focus on sustainability or environmental economics.
• Knowledge on building life cycle assessments.
• Knowledge related codes and specifications related to sustainability.
