Description
Direct and administers oversight of companywide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal state and local laws. The Director of EHS & Risk Management reports to the Vice President Operations and Digital Transformation and works closely with the CFO on development and of EHS and Risk Management programs through the company. Reports to and advises upper management on all phases of EHS activities.
This position has been identified as a key position with specific responsibilities input support and alignment with Click Bonds Quality & Environmental Management System (QEMS). The QEMS is the overall framework for the companys policies and operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• In coordination and concurrence of the CFO and/or Controller exercises routine decisions and communications regarding risk management loss control and insurance programs affecting key aspects of the business. This includes workers compensation general and professional liability property product vehicle aircraft information technology and catastrophic lines.
• Oversee the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. In coordination with the VPs of: Engineering Quality and the Director of Marketing has oversight responsibilities for product regulatory affairs such as labeling compliance and national/international safety data sheet development.
• Ensure conformance with all DOT/IATA shipping requirements. In collaboration with the Director People Operations serves as a key contact for physical security issues affecting the Company. Advises and reports to management on all aspects of these programs.
• Develop administer and communicate policies that affect EHS and risk management activities.
• Understand and analyze impact of EHS or risk management compliance requirements. Serve as key point of contact for hearings legal counsel and communications on related issues.
• Provide technical expertise in EHS related matters risk management health physics and regulatory affairs.
• Interact and serve as chief point of contact for compliance regulators except in those cases specifically related to People Operations or Quality Assurance.
• Ensure that required business compliance permits and reports are prepared and timely submitted.
• Advance compliance strategy options. Work with suppliers/OEMs on regulatory data and impacts.
• Authorize return to work cases for workrelated incidents and coadvise with People Operations on return to work for personal medical matters.
• Oversee emergency preparedness and response. Serves as colead for the Business Continuity Plan.
• Champion incident/accident investigations and drives closure of corrective actions. Mentors EHS team and company employees on EHS and risk management issues. In collaboration with People Operations counsels managers supervisors and employees in appropriate safetyrelated recognition or disciplinary matters.
• Drive training for employees on issues related to safety OSHA and the environment. Ensures that training is developed and completed for EHS through staff or other subject matter experts.
• Has stopwork authority for any dangerous or significant adverse environmental impact circumstances to include onsite contractors regardless of project.
• Plan organize and control all activities/budget of the department. Develops department and functional goals and objectives in alignment with corporate goals.
• In collaboration with People Operations advocate for reasonable ADA accommodation when needed.
• Oversee and manage EHS vendors may serve as project manager for thirdparty EHS or risk management related contracted functions.
• Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of compliance regulations and industry practices: OSHA EPA NFPA etc.
• Practical experience in professionallevel safety engineering/science application.
• Professionallevel knowledge of environmental compliance and pollution prevention.
• ISO 14001 External Leadauditor and managing both internal audits and external registrar audits.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment within an industrial or aerospace work environment.
• Experience in regulatory inspections and positive negotiation outcomes.
• Practice in insurance and risk management activities (workers compensation loss control fire etc..
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong computer program skills in Excel PowerPoint Word etc. Knowledge of CAD is beneficial.
• Team player who has the ability to work effectively with all levels of company personnel.
• Ability to understand fiscal impact capital expenditures and budgets.
• Ability to fluently write and read English.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelors Degree in EHS related Engineering or Science (B.S.
• A minimum of ten years related experience in manufacturing and/or aerospacerelated work environments.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
• Professional Certifications in Environmental Heath and or Safety such as CSP CIH PE EIT CHMM REHS RS and/or RM (Insurance) preferred.
• Must have or be able to attain within 6months ISO 14001 Lead Auditor (External)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage employees in the EHS Department.
• Perform supervisory duties in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.
• Interview hire and train employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
MATHEMATICAL & SCIENCE SKILLS:
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and environmental/safety engineering equations.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
• Aptitude to understand and apply basic chemistry and physics terms laws and equations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• The work is primarily sedentary although there may be some walking standing bending and carrying of items such as paper or books weighing less than 10 pounds. May infrequently engage in installation work for environmental equipment or safety assessments requiring climbing of ladders or lifting up to50lbs.
• Position requires color vision.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
• None except if in manufacturing areas may need protective eyewear or ear plugs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• While the general work environment is a typical office this position requires regular access to all departments and buildings/properties. This includes areas without temperature control (heat/cold) high noise areas dusts oily flooring etc.
