Director, Clean Energy Tracking

Classification: Full-time, Exempt

Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) is 501(c)(3) nonprofit that advocates for market-based policy solutions to advance sustainable energy in the U.S. and internationally. CRS engages stakeholders across the sustainable energy landscape through its education, technical assistance, and policy-focused programs and outreach. CRS also administers the market-leading Green-e® programs, which offer independent environmental and consumer protection standards and certification for buyers and producers of renewable energy.

CRS is launching the Clean Energy Tracking System Consortium to modernize tracking systems for energy attribute certificates and improve access to reliable renewable energy tracking.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CRS is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director to lead the Clean Energy Tracking System Consortium, a major multi-stakeholder initiative to modernize renewable energy tracking systems, improve interoperability, and expand access to trusted energy attribute tracking frameworks. While the Consortium's initial work is focused domestically, this role may also support the expansion of these efforts internationally.

Key responsibilities include:
• Lead and manage the Consortium's strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and multi-phase implementation.
• Build and maintain relationships with tracking systems, utilities, government agencies, corporate buyers, and other stakeholders.
• Oversee governance structures, advisory groups, and a Steering Committee to ensure balanced representation and progress.
• Coordinate and provide strategic oversight to technical working groups, reviewing or drafting key materials and deliverables.
• Lead contract management, proposal development, and fundraising efforts to support Consortium operations.
• Manage and direct external communications, including outreach campaigns, web content, webinars, and coordination with marketing teams.
• Represent CRS and the Consortium in public forums, policy discussions, and conferences to promote effective energy tracking and market development.
• Supervise Consortium program staff, contractors, and consultants, and oversee project management and reporting systems including Salesforce.
• 10-15% travel is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PREFERED SKILLS:

Required:
• 8+ years of experience in clean energy markets, nonprofit or public sector leadership, or energy system reform.
• Master’s degree or equivalent experience in energy systems, environmental science, public policy, or related fields.
• Extensive experience engaging with state energy regulators.
• Deep knowledge of energy attribute certificates (EACs)/renewable energy certificates (RECs), tracking systems, GHG accounting, and electricity markets.
• Strong relationship-building, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.
• Experience managing large projects, contracts, budgets, and multi-stakeholder governance processes.
• Proficient in Salesforce or similar CRM/project management systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to contribute positively to CRS’s organizational culture
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to CRS’s mission

Preferred:
• Experience supporting international market development efforts.
• Experience managing contractors and leading strategic stakeholder collaborations.
• Experience with qualitative analysis and technical writing
• Experience with proposal development

COMPENSATION:

The Program Director will be a full-time exempt position with a salary range for this position is $110k - $175k depending on experience level and location*.

LOCATION* :

This position is preferred to be based in San Francisco, CA, with in-office attendance required in alignment with our hybrid work policy. For exceptional candidates, we are open to considering a remote arrangement. Please note that compensation may be adjusted based on the candidate’s location.
