JOB SUMMARY
The Director, Global Energy Optimization, reports to the Vice President of Global Engineering & Environmental Impact and is responsible for driving energy efficiency and emissions reduction initiatives across various brands and continents. They create tools and processes, conduct detailed analyses, and organize training to support energy and emissions goals. As a Subject Matter Expert in energy efficiency and emissions reduction within the built environment, the Director possesses thorough knowledge of hotel operations and provides strategic guidance to owners and Marriott associates. They address a wide range of energy, sustainability, and environmental topics to ensure all stakeholders contribute to Marriott's sustainability objectives.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required
• A 4-year bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Engineering, Facilities Management, Business, or a relevant field, along with at least 8 years of experience in the energy industry, facility management, operations, commercial energy engineering, or a related industry.
• Extensive experience with building automation systems, metering, or building analytics, and expertise in energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
• Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
• Ability to create and communicate strategies to achieve better energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
Preferred
• Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Procurement, or similar certifications in energy management, along with advanced skill level in Microsoft CoPilot, Excel, PowerBI, and power user ability in Microsoft web-based applications like OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Office 365, and Outlook.
• Strong modeling and data analysis skills, demonstrated communication, presentation, and training experience, and solid time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work well in teams, manage/lead others, think and work independently, multi-task, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
• Ensures Marriott's Serve 360 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategy and Science Based Target (SBT) are effectively communicated.
• Establishes annual property-level energy and carbon and other reduction targets and provides strategic sustainability performance reporting, metrics, and leadership to global and continent leaders.
• Analyzes and shares energy reduction and carbon reduction progress cross-functionally as a key leader within the company’s Science Based Target (SBT) program.
• Collaborates with continent leadership to create and manage programs for on-property energy and carbon reduction, including feedback cycles and issue resolution.
• Puts in place clear processes for responding to energy assessments from both operational and capital expenditure perspectives and develops tools and reports to identify use/cost outliers and carbon reduction opportunities.
• Delivers relevant training and presentations to key stakeholders, helping them to identify, measure, and report on progress towards energy and carbon reduction goals.
• Holds vendors and stakeholders accountable to contract terms and deadlines.
• Utilizes legal resources to review contracts, ensuring protection for Marriott and its owners from risks and damages.
• Updates internal intranet pages (MGS) to communicate Marriott's environmental policies and expectations to continent teams.
• Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
The salary range for this position is $125,600 to $215,700 annually. Marriott offers a bonus program, comprehensive health care benefits, 401(k) plan with up to 5% company match, employee stock purchase plan at 15% discount, accrued paid time off (including sick leave where applicable), life insurance, group disability insurance, travel discounts, adoption assistance, paid parental leave, health savings account (except for positions based out of or performed in Hawaii), flexible spending accounts, tuition assistance, pre-tax commuter benefits, other life and work wellness benefits, and may include other incentives such as stock awards and deferred compensation plans. Benefits and incentive compensation may be subject to generally applicable eligibility, waiting period, contribution, and other requirements and conditions.
