About the position

SpecPro Sustainment and Environmental, LLC is seeking a Deep Ocean Scientist to support the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) in understanding the impacts of climate change on activities regulated within the deep waters of the Ocean Continental Shelf (OCS). The role involves conducting comprehensive literature reviews and providing policy recommendations that will inform resource management decisions related to offshore wind, oil and gas, marine minerals, and carbon sequestration activities. The Deep Ocean Scientist will be responsible for synthesizing relevant and up-to-date scientific information to identify habitats and species of concern within the OCS area, as well as assessing the effects of climate change on these habitats and species. The primary duties of the Deep Ocean Scientist include conducting thorough literature and data compilation, reviewing and synthesizing information, and identifying the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems. The scientist will also be tasked with providing recommendations for future management practices and needs related to climate change, creating outreach materials for both subject matter experts and the general public, and developing an annotated bibliography of findings. Participation in webinars and presentations of findings will also be required as part of the role. This position is critical in ensuring that BOEM's activities are informed by the latest scientific understanding of climate change impacts on ocean environments.

Responsibilities
• Conduct literature and data compilation, review, and synthesis with relevant, up-to-date information and state-of-the-science information.

• Identify habitats and species of concern within the OCS area.
,
• Compile and synthesize information on climate change effects; identify impacts on habitat and/or species of concern.
,
• Provide recommendations for future needs and management practices related to climate change.
,
• Create resources and outreach materials for subject matter experts and the general public detailing results of literature search.

• Develop an annotated bibliography.
,
• Present findings and participate in webinars as needed.
,
• Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements
• Bachelor of Science from an accredited university in a related field.

• Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy Degree preferred.
,
• Working knowledge of ocean energy policy and regulatory agencies.
,
• Familiarity with NEPA and the Coastal Zone Management Act.
,
• Working knowledge of deep ocean climate impacts.
