About the position
Abt Global is seeking a data analytics candidate with a strong background in environmental science or energy systems to join its expanding team within the Digital and Data Services (DDS) Division. This division is pivotal in providing data science methodologies, data visualization, and automation tools to a diverse array of government agencies, university researchers, and foundations. The work primarily focuses on public policy, program evaluation, and data modernization across various sectors, including energy, environment, healthcare, public health, housing, and human services, both domestically and internationally. The selected candidate will primarily collaborate with Abt's domestic environmental and energy sector clients, contributing to impactful projects that aim to solve pressing global issues. In this role, the candidate will engage with both internal colleagues and external clients to apply data analytics in addressing complex technical questions. Responsibilities will include conducting data cleaning, analyzing and visualizing both textual and numerical data, and utilizing various tools within Azure and AWS cloud environments to deploy analytics or modeling workflows. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing analysis plans, effectively communicating the strengths and weaknesses of various analyses, and identifying and applying appropriate analytic techniques to ensure robust outcomes. The ideal candidate must possess experience in programming languages such as Python or R, and demonstrate familiarity with environmental, timeseries, or energy analytics or modeling. A core understanding of complex environmental or energy data, which includes temporal and spatial variations, is essential. The candidate will be expected to collect data from various sources, including web scraping and APIs, and perform necessary data management tasks such as data wrangling and cleaning. Additionally, they will design and implement quality assurance and management processes, ensuring thorough documentation of analytical requirements, version control, and code defect management. Strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills are also critical for success in this position.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience, Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or PhD with no experience focused on environment and/or energy.

• 2+ years of consulting experience.

• Experience publishing environmental science and/or energy manuscripts, dashboards, or products.

• Familiarity with environmental, timeseries, or energy analytics or modeling.

• Core understanding of complex environmental or energy data containing temporal and spatial variation.

• Experience with timeseries data and data sets with complex relationships.

• Strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
