Cultural Resources Technician

The Cultural Resources Technician at CEMML supports Hill AFB’s Cultural Resources Program through fieldwork and office tasks, including report reviews, survey participation, and document updates. Responsibilities involve community outreach, data management, technical writing, and cultural resource assessments. The role may require evening and weekend work but is capped at 40 hours per week. No degree is required for this full-time position.
The Cultural Resources Technician will support Hill Air Force Base’s (AFB) Cultural Resources Program with a combination of fieldwork and office tasks. The position will provide general support to the Cultural Resources Manager (CRM) by reviewing reports, drafting correspondence to consulting parties (State Historic Preservation Office [SHPO], Tribal parties, etc.), participating in survey projects on the Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR), and updating management planning documents, online cultural resource training modules, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The technician may also help develop: ESRI Story Maps, agreement documents, and other materials as needed. Required vehicle and safety training will be provided.

The technician may be required to work evenings and weekends but will not work over 40 hours in the workweek.

Potential duties will include but are not limited to the tasks below:

• Community outreach, volunteer coordination, and/or public education

• Field-data collection, entry, and/or management

• Writing and editing technical reports

• Data analysis and/or mapping using ArcGIS and StoryMaps

• Historical and/or archival research

• Archaeological inventory and/or assessment

• Cultural resource identification

• SHPO correspondence

• Help prepare compliance documents in support of regulations (e.g National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA))

• Update and/or maintain cultural resource management documents

• Resource condition assessments and project/action impact analysis

• Site inspections and/or monitoring

• Spatial data collection, including post-processing, development, and/or standardization

• Survey 123, ArcGIS Field Maps, Avenza Maps, or other data form development
