Job Description

Eocene Environmental Group, Inc. is hiring a Cultural GIS Specialist to support cartographic needs for various projects. The role involves creating maps, processing archaeological data, and maintaining geospatial data. Candidates should have a background in archaeology and experience with GIS software. This full-time position offers benefits and is open to remote work, preferably for those in the western U.S. Compensation ranges from $22 to $33 per hour.

Reports To: GIS Supervisor

Job Type: Full Time, Regular

Compensation: $22 - $33 per hour, based on relevant work experience

This position is open to remote work, with ideal candidates being located on the western part of the country (California, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, and Oregon)

JOB SUMMARY: The Cultural GIS Specialist will support the cartographic needs of a variety of large and small projects including utility, transportation, telecommunications, and energy infrastructure projects. They will develop and integrate geospatial data into templated maps for cultural review reports.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:
• Use geospatial software to create templated static maps for technical cultural reports.
• Pre- and post-process archaeological field data leading to the creation of primary record site sketch and location maps compliant with state agency standards.
• Process, interpret, and maintain geospatial vector data in an assortment file formats.
• Utilize a variety of geoprocessing tools and data query techniques.
• Update and maintain ArcGIS online maps.
• Adhere to established GIS procedures and company data structures.
• Produce consistent and accurate products to meet fast-paced deadlines.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.
• Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright's and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership.
• Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• An educational or vocational background in archaeology equivalent to 2+ years of experience.
• BA/BS Degree or Technical Certificate in GIS and/or 2+ years of work experience.
• Experience with geospatial software such as Arc Map, Arc Pro, QGIS, etc.
• Understands standard cartographic and database management principles.
• Comprehension of ESRI ArcGIS online platform and publication.
• Capable of effectively managing files for complex projects without enterprise-level tools.
• Previous experience in NEPA, FERC, NHPA, ESA, and/or other environmental programs.
• Familiarity with utility operations, maintenance, and/or construction datasets.
• Able to independently troubleshoot problems and research solutions.
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of employees, both technical and non-technical.
• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in reading and extracting pertinent spatial data from CDPR 523 (or similar) site records and cultural survey reports.
• Familiarity with other environmental review fields such as land planning, biology, hydrology, etc.
• Exposure to Google Earth Pro, Arc Collector, Arc Field Maps, Survey 123, etc.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite products utilizing the latest operating system.
• Ability to perform work duties independently and efficiently.
• Demonstrates excellence in listening, questioning, and patience.
• Effective communication skills (e.g. writing, email, telephone, etc.)
• Highly organized, motivated, dependable, and trustworthy.
