Job Description

The Crew Supervisor at Los Angeles Conservation Corps leads and mentors a team of young participants (ages 18-26) in various conservation projects, including trail construction and community beautification. Responsibilities include project management, safety oversight, and educational support. Candidates should have strong leadership skills, experience with diverse populations, and a valid California driver's license. This is a full-time position based in Los Angeles, CA.
Position Summary

Reporting to the Program Coordinator [Manager or Director], the Crew Supervisor implements the mission of the LA Conservation Corps by using his/her leadership, supervisory and technical skills to develop the educational and work skills of young people, enabling them to advance their educational, personal and career opportunities. The Crew Supervisor is responsible for the supervision, work project coordination, recruitment, education support, and other leadership responsibilities for a team of 3-10 program participants aged 18-26 years old. The role involves close personal contact with corpsmembers to foster community ties, personal growth and the development of leadership skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Leadership & Mentorship: Manage, supervise, and participate in crew work including trail construction, tree planting, landscaping, park development and maintenance, and community beautification. Delegate responsibilities, maintain crew discipline, resolve conflicts, and provide formal and informal feedback.
• Conservation: Learn and apply environmental conservation skills; lead and supervise work projects such as graffiti removal, trail construction, fence building, wildlife habitat restoration, public park maintenance, native plant revegetation, and invasive species eradication. Arrange environmental education activities to inspire conservation stewardship.
• Safety & Risk Management: Oversee the physical and emotional safety of corpsmembers, ensure safe transportation of crew and equipment, and enforce proper work practices at all times.
• Project Management & Implementation: Complete conservation projects safely and to high standards by training and supervising crews while liaising with project sponsors and community members.
• Education (Coaching & Developing): Lead field trainings (e.g., chainsaw use, brush cutter operation, trail building) and provide ongoing mentorship. Complete a minimum of 10 hours of professional development training per year.

Qualifications
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job and to train others.
• Experience working with diverse populations and motivating young people.
• Strong organizational, supervisory, project management, and communication skills.
• Competence in computer skills (Microsoft Office) and completing necessary reports.
• High School Diploma or equivalency is required; AA and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred with at least six months of relevant experience.
• Must obtain or already possess a valid California Class C Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement and standard multi-media first aid certification.

Salary Range: $23.19 – $28.54 per hour.
