Corporate Counsel, Environment Compliance & Sustainable Design

Mediabistro is hiring a Corporate Counsel for Environment Compliance & Sustainable Design in Roosevelt, WA. The role involves advising on environmental compliance, monitoring regulatory changes, developing policies, and negotiating transactions. Candidates should have 5+ years of legal experience, a Juris Doctor, and expertise in environmental compliance. The position requires some travel and seeks a collaborative individual with strong judgment and communication skills.
You will be part of a team that counsels Amazon’s data center business and compliance teams on a range of environmental, regulatory, and infrastructure development matters. Principal duties include :
Providing day-to-day advice on compliance issues.
Monitoring and advising the business of upcoming environmental regulatory changes.
Developing and improving compliance policies and programs.
Working cross-functionally with other data center teams to develop new infrastructure.
Negotiating commercial transactions with environmental vendors.
Handling legal disputes and inquiries from regulators and other third parties.
This role will give the successful candidate an opportunity to join a collaborative, tight-knit team that is leading exciting and pioneering global initiatives as part of a business that is making history. Some travel, domestic and international, will be required.
The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, pragmatic, enjoy working hard and being challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
Minimum Requirements :
5+ years of legal experience.
Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent.
Experience in transactional and technology licensing or equivalent.
Legal experience in environmental compliance and litigation matters.
Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work.
Experience managing multiple projects and meeting aggressive deadlines.
6+ years of post-qualification legal experience as a licensed attorney.
Demonstrated experience writing and communicating successfully with a diverse range of audiences and business stakeholders.
High degree of independence, initiative, decisiveness and creative thinking, as well as the desire to be challenged.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500 / year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000 / year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
