Candidates should have over 3 years of experience in relevant fields. The position allows for hybrid work from Boston or Lawrence offices or fully remote work. What we're looking for:
Nexamp is looking for a Mid-Level Controls Engineer to join our growing team. You must be a self-motivated independent worker with ability to multitask between multiple active projects. As a mid-level Controls Engineer, you will have years of experience with developing numerous controls projects from inception to completion: PLC programming, project management, IP networking skills, in-depth knowledge of industrial protocols including DNP3 and Modbus protocols. You will exude exceptional work ethic and commitment to accomplishing goals.
We are accepting candidates across the New England market, where we will support hybrid work out of our Boston or Lawrence offices (preferred), or fully remote work. You will report to the the Manager, Operations Center SCADA.
What you'll do:
• RTAC Programming & Development: Develop and manage SEL RTAC programs using IEC 61131-3 and modular library development to support streamlined site deployment.
• SCADA System Enhancement: Design, configure, and troubleshoot SCADA systems to monitor, control, and dispatch renewable assets, focusing on modularity for future scalability.
• Communication Protocol Management: Create DNP/Modbus mappings to enable robust, reliable system communication.
• Collaboration: Work with Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) partners to expedite RTAC setup for implementation and commissioning, and collaborate with the Nexamp Operations Center (NOC) team to tailor SCADA system functionality to operational needs.
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Proactively identify and resolve issues, update code libraries as fixes are rolled out, and maintain Nexamp’s enterprise SCADA platform.
• Field Equipment Support: Provide remote or on-site troubleshooting for solar field equipment, including inverters, Battery Management Systems (BMS), meters, and relays.
• Mentorship & Guidance: Share expertise and provide mentorship to junior Controls Engineers, supporting their growth and technical development.
What you'll bring:
• 3+ years of IEC 61131-3 PLC programming experience.
• 3+ years of experience with Modbus RTU/TCP and DNP3.
• 1+ years of experience with renewable energy equipment preferred (inverters, trackers, DC converters, BMSs, meters, relays, etc..)
• Ability to program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs as necessary.
• Experience with SCADA development and strong project management experience.
• IP networking experience and the ability to support troubleshooting during non-standard work hours on an as needed basis.

• Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond your organization.

• Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.
