Ameresco is seeking a Controls Engineer for a hybrid position in Portland, ME. The role involves developing PLC code, maintaining alarm systems, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards. Responsibilities include supporting automation system commissioning, troubleshooting, and collaborating with management and plant specialists. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least 2 years of PLC programming experience. Travel may be required up to 25%.

Position Overview:
Ameresco currently has a new opportunity for a Controls Engineer based in Portland, Maine to join the Asset Operations team. This is a hybrid position and will report to the Manager of Automation.

Responsibilities:
• Development of custom PLC code and HMI graphics for new plants and existing plant upgrades.
• Historian set up and maintenance.
• Configuring and maintaining alarm notifications systems.
• Reviewing all vendor equipment and software to ensure that purchased systems meet Ameresco’s Automation, safety, and environmental compliance standards.
• Providing custom Data System implementation for new projects and existing plant upgrades. Deliverables include:
- Plant network equipment selection and design.
- HMI server equipment selection, configuration, and programming.
- Remote alarm notification system.
- Reporting software.
- Backup collection of critical plant data.
• Supporting the commissioning team in commissioning automation systems through real time troubleshooting, tuning, and support of PLC logic (code).
• Working with the compliance team to ensure all automated equipment is meeting contractual and environmental permit obligations.
• Providing safe, compliant, and immediate automation support and plant troubleshooting for operating assets.
• Supporting operating asset troubleshooting through the SR system in cooperation with the Manager – Operations Engineering.
• Making safety a priority in all actions and decisions. Making compliance a priority in all actions and decisions, second only to safety.
• Developing strong collaborative relationships with Regional Management and Plant Specialists that reinforces the understanding that Engineering in general, and Automation Engineering specifically, are there to support the plants a like a customer.
• Providing periodic “fly by” audits of code and data systems.
• Prioritizing “call out” reliability.
• Complete all assigned training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience with PLC logic, programming with Allen Bradley Studio 5000.
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting instrumentation and control equipment. Including valves; pressure, flow, temperature, and level switches/transmitters.
• Ability to travel as required (up to 25%).

Additional Qualifications:
• Professional Engineering License is preferred.
• Ability to use P&IDs and control panel drawings is preferred.
• Experience with iFix, FactoryTalk or Ignition scada systems is preferred.
• Experience with landfill gas operations or similar is preferred.
