About the position

National Grid is hiring a Consultant for Energy Integration within our Customer Energy Integration department. This position can be located in Albany NY, Buffalo NY, Syracuse NY, or Utica NY. The Consultant will be responsible for managing relationships with complex distributed generation applicants throughout the company's end-to-end interconnection process. The successful candidate will possess strong technical and project management skills, enabling customer-sponsored distributed generation (DG) projects to be interconnected cost-effectively and within state-regulated timelines, while ensuring high customer satisfaction. As the primary point of contact for customers, the Consultant will guide them through regulatory, legislative, and technical obligations. This includes obtaining and interpreting technical documentation, performing preliminary screenings and feasibility reviews, drafting contractual agreements, and coordinating complex DG projects with various internal and external stakeholders throughout the construction process. The Consultant will also serve as a subject matter expert on DG, providing outreach and education on DG initiatives. In addition to managing DG projects, the Consultant may assist customers in evaluating the feasibility of large complex electric projects during the preliminary stages. This role requires a proactive approach to enhance customer service and cost-effectiveness, as well as the ability to analyze and evaluate developments in DG and renewable energy technologies to identify impacts on business strategies.

Responsibilities
• Manage DG projects with customers, external vendors, contractors, and consultants to ensure timely delivery of utility services and project completion.

• Conduct engineering screenings and feasibility reviews, maintain work management systems, and update procedures to support design solutions for Distributed Generation programs.

• Develop and maintain effective relationships with various internal teams and external vendors to facilitate communication and ensure successful delivery of products and programs.

• Challenge existing policies and procedures to continuously seek ways to enhance customer service and cost-effectiveness.

• Coordinate internal and external resources to perform comprehensive engineering studies and ensure timely delivery of DG projects per applicable jurisdictional tariffs.

• Provide technical guidance, support, and coaching to others to share knowledge and increase understanding of Distributed Generation programs and services.

• Analyze and evaluate developments in Distributed Generation and Renewable Energy technologies to identify impacts on business and strategies for integrating cost efficiencies.

• Ensure projects adhere to appropriate accounting procedures.

• Negotiate, develop, and administer all aspects of interconnection-related agreements.

• Provide energy efficiency and growth leads to the sales organization as applicable.

• Update and maintain company websites with the latest program information.
,
• Represent National Grid in various industry associations.

Requirements
• Familiarity with power system components, engineering concepts, project management, and interconnections.
,
• Experience with renewable energies and the utility industry is a major plus.
,
• Demonstrated project management skills.
,
• Knowledge or willingness to understand various regulatory policies and interconnection-related standards.

• Ability to read schematics and one-lines and recommend/oversee changes to documentation.
,
• Working knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) or ability to be trained.
,
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office software products.
,
• Experience with utility electric and gas construction is a plus.
,
• Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
,
• Ability to represent the company in meetings and seminars, presenting material as needed.

Nice-to-haves
• Master's degree, PE, DGCP, and/or PMP certification desired.

• Prior work experience in reviewing and discussing CHP/DG feasibility reviews and system impact studies preferred.
