Job Description

HR Green is seeking a Construction Staff Technician III in Aurora, IL, responsible for observing Transportation Construction projects to ensure compliance with design plans and specifications. This temporary position involves inspecting materials, advising management of contractor activities, and communicating with clients to resolve project issues. Candidates should have a high school diploma, over 10 years of construction inspection experience, and strong communication skills. OSHA-10 training and a valid driver’s license are required.

Summary

Construction Staff Technicians are responsible for the observation of Transportation Construction projects to verify that the contractor is in accordance with design plans and specifications. The nature of this position is temporary. Employment may be expected to end at the conclusion of each assignment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Observes and verifies that contractors are building roadway, related structures, or project improvements in accordance with plans, specifications and construction standards.
• Inspects materials to ensure compliance with specifications and plans.
• Advises their manager or Resident Engineer of contractor activities and reports any concerns.
• Understands and interprets local, state, and/or federal standard specifications and procedures.
• Answers questions from the contractor, public or other project field personnel.
• Communicates with client and contractor to make recommendations and resolve concerns related to the project schedule, plan changes, materials, workmanship, or additional costs. Mediates project related matters with the contractor on behalf of the client.
• Assists in the development of the pay estimate, quantifying pay items on projects and settling accounting disputes with the contractor on behalf of our client.
• Observes and documents the contractor’s work progress to record that it is being completed in conformance with the plans and specifications, contract documents, and applicable local, state, and/or federal regulatory requirements.
• Performs quality assurance checks and advises contractor of the recommended course of action when work or materials are not in compliance with requirements.
• Performs yield checks, depth checks, and utility testing. Performs basic construction layout work (including bench circuits and providing line and grade for various construction
elements).
• Maintains neat and accurate project documentation.
• May assist the Resident Engineer with other job duties as assigned.
• The employee must be capable of driving/operating a motor vehicle for company business, and maintain a valid driver’s license in the state of residence.

Education and Experience
• High School diploma or equivalent
• 10+ years of related Construction inspection/observation experience is required.
• Familiarity with documentation requirements and inspection procedures
• Excellent time management, communication, and technical skills are required.
• Must have received training on equipment commonly used in the generation of engineering-related tests and analysis.
• Must be able to work hours outside of normal business hours and may include weekends.
• OSHA-10 Hour Safety Training
• Must possess knowledge of MS Office suite of products
• Other training and certifications as required
• Requires regular travel to and from remote worksites

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain) for extended periods of time and to stand for 8 to 12 hours per day. This work requires walking and standing on uneven terrain. Employees must also be able to lift and move a minimum of 30 lbs. (concrete cylinders), sit, walk, talk, hear, and reach with hands or arms. The employee must be able to ascend and descend a ladder and stairs up to a minimum of 20 feet in vertical distance. Hand eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and other office equipment as required. The employee is also required to kneel, crouch, and bend. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Compensation Range

$40.25 - $62.50 / hour

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Illinois Salary Transparency amendment to the Equal Pay Act of 2003. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, skills, prior work experience, competencies, and geographic work location. The total annual compensation package may consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate, after a qualifying period, in our performance and discretionary incentive bonus program(s).
