WORK LOCATION
• This position will primarily be located at McGrau Ford BESS in Ball Ground, GA. Day trips to other BESS sites and GPC Headquarters for updates will be required as needed.
• Some relocation/per diem assistance may be available if the successful candidate does not already live within a reasonable commute distance.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position serves to provide construction oversight and management of New Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Generation Projects for the Projects East group within our Technical & Shared Services (TSS) organization. This position is responsible for interfacing between onsite work crews and internal company organizations including various TSS departments as well as groups outside of TSS such as Generation Development, GPC Renewable & Resilient Generation, GPC Power Delivery, Safety & Health, Environmental Affairs, and more throughout the project lifecycle.

The role is also responsible for making sure Southern Company’s values are the driver behind the work being performed no matter the task being performed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Abide by all safety rules and help establish and maintain a culture focused on safety.
• Ensure all construction activities are performed under established compliance requirements.
• Utilize strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders to solve issues and keep projects moving forward (engineering, asset managers, contractors, internal stakeholders, customers, and outside agencies).
• Perform construction oversight ensuring installations are done per design drawings and specifications.
• Assist Project Controls with schedule inputs/updates, cost tracking, and commodity tracking.
• Utilize computer-based business tools to monitor and manage project deliverables.
• Ensure that the quality requirements of the applicable plans, specifications and standard practices are met.
• Candidate must be able to adapt to changing work duties, work with limited supervision, and perform successfully in both individual and team environments.
• Must be able to work in extreme climates and environments (e.g., cold, hot, dusty, humid) and may require some extended work hours.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education (preferred):
• Bachelors (4-year) degree preferred, but not required
• Preferred disciplines include:
Building Science, Construction Management, Engineering, or another related field
• Project Management Professional or similar accreditation/professional license beneficial

Experience (Strongly preferred):
• Overseeing large industrial construction contracts
• Multi-discipline knowledge in power generation or heavy industrial construction

Experience (preferred):
• Power generation experience
• Electrical installation/commissioning experience in a power plant or heavy industrial construction
• Instrumentation & Controls installation/commissioning experience in a power plant or heavy industrial construction

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of OSHA and applicable environmental regulations. Knowledge of Southern Company Safety & Health program and Georgia Power environmental programs are a plus.
• Adequate knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards.
• Ability to identify technical problems and assist in providing resolutions to problems. Ability to review and comprehend engineering drawings is a plus.
• Ability to manage Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts.
• Proven risk assessment skills and sound judgment/decision making.
• Ability to build strong working relationships with a wide range of Southern Company organizations.
• Knowledge and experience with personal computers and the ability to learn numerous software applications quickly.
• Ability to interface with vendors and contractors while representing the best interests of Southern Company.
