About the position

The Conservation Technician position is a full-time role with the Jackson Soil & Water Conservation District (JSWCD) office, located in Marianna, Florida. This position is integral to the collaboration between local farmers, ranchers, producers, and various local and state agencies, particularly the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). The technician will play a crucial role in assisting landowners with the implementation of Agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs) on their landscapes. This involves conducting implementation verification site visits with agricultural producers who are enrolled in BMPs, providing guidance and assistance in the implementation of these practices, and participating in educational outreach events to promote awareness and understanding of BMPs among the agricultural community. The technician will also be responsible for attending various trainings, meetings, and workshops organized by the Soil and Water Conservation District. This includes conducting site visits and facilitating workshops and community meetings aimed at enhancing agricultural practices and water quality. The role requires a commitment to working collaboratively with agricultural producers and a willingness to adapt to their schedules, which may involve working after normal hours or on weekends. Responsibilities
• Conduct implementation verification site visits with agricultural producers enrolled in BMPs.

Requirements
• Minimum of a High School diploma.

• Four (4) years practical work experience in production agriculture, or two (2) years practical work experience in production agriculture and an Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture.

• Valid Florida Driver's License.

• Good verbal and written communication skills.

• General knowledge of computer skills.

• Knowledgeable of BMP and agricultural water quality issues.

• Willingness to work after normal working hours or on weekends to accommodate farmer's schedules.

• Willingness to attend additional training on programs and information required for the position.
