Job Description
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is hiring a Conservation Technician III to assist Regional Fish and Wildlife Managers. Responsibilities include operating equipment, habitat management, herbicide applications, and maintaining public use facilities. The role also involves data collection and ensuring safety on state lands. The positions are located in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex County, DE, indicating that this is not a remote job.

The Division of Fish & Wildlife conserves and manages Delaware’s fish and wildlife and their habitats, and provides fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing and boating access on nearly 65,000 acres of public land.

Summary Statement
These four positions provide assistance to the Regional Fish and Wildlife Managers in accomplishing management objectives on state wildlife areas and fishing areas in New Castle (1), Kent (2) and Sussex (1) County. The incumbent's primary job duties will include: operating and maintaining farming/land management equipment and boats; performing habitat management activities such as planting wildlife food and cover plots; performing herbicide applications; prescribed burning and invasive plant species control, installing and maintaining waterfowl blinds, deer stands, information signs and wildlife nesting structures; maintaining ponds and water control structures; and managing public use facilities such as boat ramps, trails and wildlife viewing structures. The incumbent will also be required to assist staff biologists with biological data collection at deer checking stations.
Essential Functions

• Performs a variety of natural resources conservation and preservation duties for assigned agency operations such as propagating, seeding, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting, and care of trees, flowers, shrubs, lawns, and crops, turf/grounds management, integrated pest management, herbicide/fertilizer application, layout and design, macroalgae harvesting, channel marking, debris management, and assessing soil composition and environmental conditions.
• Ensures the safe use of state owned and/or maintained grounds and facilities by the public and resolves safety concerns or other issues.
• Applies conservation and preservation principles and practices, as well as related laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Completes maintenance and repairs in a variety of labor/trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, construction, and grounds maintenance.
• Operates marine, land-based, and construction equipment and vehicles.
• Provides information to the public and responds to inquiries regarding conservation and preservation efforts and related activities; assists in responding to storms or other related, agency-specific situations.
• Participates in special projects and initiatives.
• Completes standard forms/applications and maintains records, logs, and reports.
• Maintains applicable tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS For Conservation Technician III
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control: Regional Operations:
• Two years experience in operating and maintaining equipment such as farming equipment, construction equipment, trucks, boats, or small motor equipment.
• Two years experience in maintenance trades such as grounds keeping, mechanical, building, or general carpentry.
• Six months experience in land management activities such as land stewardship, farming practices, invasive species identification and control, herbicide applications, or prescribed burning.
• Six months experience in record keeping.
• Knowledge of prioritizing, assigning and reviewing the work of others.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
