Job Description

Greenville Water is seeking a Conservation Technician I to assist in watershed sustainability through forestry, hydrology, and wildlife studies. Responsibilities include conducting scientific studies, completing grant applications, and maintaining equipment for watershed management. The position requires an Associate's degree and two years of relevant experience. Certifications in watershed management and equipment operation are needed. The role may involve rotating weekends and nights.
Conservation Technician I

Department: Reservoirs

Reports To: Watershed Manager - Scientist & Conservation

Responsible for assisting with sustainability of the watershed and reservoir through a variety of activities and studies of forestry, horticulture, hydrology, and wildlife. Assists with a variety of assigned scientific studies related to water quality, forestry, fisheries, drought management, etc. May be assigned to complete grant applications, working with department leaders to gather documentation and to fulfill necessary requirements of various funding bodies on behalf of Greenville Water. Assists with research and analysis to enhance source water protection, sustainability and water loss initiatives. Assists with controlled burns and fights forest fires, as required. Knowledgeable in the safe operation of trucks, riding mowers, bush hogs and boats, which are utilized in the maintenance of the watershed or Right of Way, building trails, removing trees from the reservoir, clearing roads, etc. May be required to work rotating weekends and nights. Performs other related duties as required.

Associate's degree in Forestry, Biology, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Hydrology or Wildlife is required. Bachelor's of Science Degree is preferred but not required. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in this field. Must maintain a valid State driver's license.

Must be able to obtain the following certifications within 2 years:
• EPA Watershed Certificate
• Adopt a Stream
• Chainsaw Class S-212 or equivalent
• Wildland Fire: S-130; S-190, L-180
• Skills Checklist confirming competent to use: Mower, Tractor, Backhoe, Dozer & Excavator
