The RCSWCD is a non-profit governmental subdivision of the Roane County Government dedicated to helping farmers and landowners to promote sustainable use and protection of soil and water resources within Roane County, TN. The RCSWCD works in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to provide necessary programs and services.

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented part-time Soil Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing our relationship with Roane County landowners. The Soil Technician serves under the general guidelines of the Roane County SWCD Board of Supervisors with direct daily supervision of the District Conservationist (NRCS-DC) of Roane County. This position involves the primary responsibility of carrying out priority activities of the Roane County Soil & Water Conservation District, TDA, and NRCS.

Job Duties
• Assist District Conservationist in developing, administering, and implementing plans for Federal and State Cost-Share programs.
• Provide technical assistance to landowners regarding application and implementation of soil & water conservation practices.
• Assist with surveys and designs of conservation practices, oversee installation, and ensure they meet quality standards.
• Assist with completing status reviews, reporting progress and entering data on computer.
• Regular indoor and outdoor physical activity, including lifting, walking, and climbing.
• Assist SWCD Office Administrator with scheduling and oversight of rental equipment, conservation education activities, youth board projects, annual district events, meetings, and outreach projects.

This is an on-site position: the District Soil Technician is expected to perform their duties in the office and in the field.

Requirements
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Possess a valid Driver’s License.
• Pass a federal background check & drug screening.
• Knowledge and understanding of Agriculture field and soil & water practices.
• Strong verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with project teams, landowners, conservation leaders, elected officials, and representatives from federal and state government agencies.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Knowledge of a broad range of Natural Resources principles and techniques with the skills to sufficiently assist the District Conservationist in analyzing complex natural resource concerns.
• Knowledge of forestry, soils, economics and applicable elements of engineering sufficient to recommend optimum and alternative natural resource development.
