The City of Alexandria is hiring a Conservation Education Specialist for the Alexandria Zoological Park. This full-time role involves caring for educational animals, conducting tours, and developing educational programs for various audiences. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for a bachelor's degree in a related field, and two years of relevant experience. Overview:
The City of Alexandria is seeking a Conservation Education Specialist to join the Alexandria Zoological Park team. As a key member of the education department, this role will be responsible for promoting the conservation and understanding of the world's wildlife and natural resources through various educational programs, activities, and outreach services. Responsibilities:
• Serve as primary caretaker of education animals on scheduled days, performing duties such as cleaning cages, feeding, watering, and handling small mammals, reptiles, and birds for presentations. * Maintain the basic housekeeping of the Education Building, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and ordering supplies. * Guide group or individual tours of the zoo and its facilities, providing information on animal background, care, and activities, as well as environmental issues and other topics of interest. * Develop, manage, and conduct specific education programs for students, adults, and teachers, and provide training sessions to zoo visitors. * Work with children and instructors during Summer Safari camp and other functions. Qualifications:
• High School diploma or GED, with two (2) years of college-level work in Zoology, Biology, Education, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred. * Two (2) years' experience as a zoo docent or employee with experience in wildlife education, teaching, or training. * Valid driver's license, with the ability to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment.
