About the position

This position provides skilled technical support to the Land & Water Conservation Department, assisting property owners with soil and water conservation practices. The role involves planning, designing, and supervising the installation of various conservation practices in Juneau County, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards.

Responsibilities
• Assist in the development of long-term soil and water conservation program recommendations.
,
• Function as team manager in field operations and serve as lead nutrient management and conservation plan reviewer.
,
• Utilize Best Management Practices for improving soil and water quality in Juneau County.
,
• Survey, design, and construct various Best Management Practices such as terraces, diversions, and waste management systems.
,
• Review soil and water conservation needs and provide technical assistance to owners/operators.
,
• Design soil conservation practices including grass waterways and erosion control dams.
,
• Assist landowners with recommendations and engineering of Best Management Practices.
,
• Gather data and develop reports for County programs with the Conservation Administrator.
,
• Train new employees in conservation practice design and installation.
,
• Conduct client status reviews and compliance checks for the Farmland Preservation Program.
,
• Review and approve stormwater management plans and construction site erosion control plans.
,
• Assist with lake planning and grant writing.
,
• Supervise the installation of soil & water conservation practices in Juneau County.
,
• Conduct soil mechanics investigations for proposed conservation practices.
,
• Review and recommend approval of cost share contracts for conservation projects.
,
• Respond to complaints and investigate potential violations of Soil & Water conservation programs.
,
• Perform compliance follow-up of landowners and operators in conservation programs.
,
• Prepare financial reports for state and federal requirements.
,
• Attend meetings to provide education and promote resource conservation programs.
,
• Maintain accurate records of all conservation practices designed and installed.

Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Sciences, Soil and Water Conservation, Soil Science or related field.
,
• Three (3) years of land conservation related experience.
,
• Familiarity with soil properties, soil maps, agronomy, topographical surveying, and CAD.
,
• Possess one of the following certifications: USDA-NRCS Certified Conservation Planner, USDA-NRCS Certified Comprehensive Nutrient Management Planner-Engineering/Agronomy, Wisconsin Soil Erosion Inspector Certification, or Certified Crop Advisor.
