Job Description
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is hiring a Conservation Aide for a seasonal position at Penn Nursery in Centre County, PA. Responsibilities include harvesting, classifying, and maintaining tree seedlings, as well as performing manual labor outdoors. The job runs from April to September, with full-time hours and no telework option. Applicants must be able to work in various weather conditions and perform essential job functions.
THE POSITION
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is seeking hardworking, reliable individuals to work during the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry's Summer Seasonal Program. If you enjoy working outdoors and are interested in assisting with the counting, classifying of tree seedlings and working with your hands in the seedling beds or are seeking extra cash through temporary summer employment, then the Commonwealth may have just such an opportunity for you!
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In early spring, you will help harvest tree seedlings by lifting them from beds, packing them in tubs for refrigerated storage, grading bundling, and classifying them by species and size, placing quality seedlings on conveyor belts, discarding damaged ones, identifying species, and storing bundled seedlings on racks. Later in the season you will also assist with nursery seedling operations by weeding seedling beds, transplanting nursery stock, and gathering cones and seeds in seed orchards. Additionally, you will complete time sheets for supervisors, maintain the counting room during harvesting, and perform other requested duties.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
• This is a seasonal, full-time position without benefits.
• The season runs from approximately April until September.
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. When the weather turns warmer, work hours shift from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
• Due to type of work and weather conditions, work may not be available all weeks or days and therefore employee would only be paid for actual hours worked.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Requirements:
• Must be willing and able to work in Centre County, PA.
• Must be willing to work a temporary, but full-time schedule w/out benefits.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
• Experience harvesting, sorting, counting, classifying, and bundling tree seedlings.
• Ability to perform manual laboring tasks indoors or outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Experience with inventory, quality control, or assembly line.
