Job Description

New Energy Equity is seeking a Community Solar Market & Policy Analyst to analyze community solar market opportunities and track energy policy updates. The role involves synthesizing information, communicating findings, and identifying new solar market opportunities. Candidates should have a relevant degree and experience in the energy field. While the position is primarily remote, some in-person attendance at the Roseville, MN office is required for meetings and events.
Community solar is an exciting subset of the solar industry that allows participants to experience the benefits of solar – regardless of their income level or housing type – by simply subscribing to a shared solar array. The Market & Policy Analyst will analyze new community solar market opportunities, track federal and state energy policy and regulatory updates, and provide state-specific program guidance in solar markets nationwide in coordination with New Energy Equity’s Policy team. This role’s focus on community solar offers an exciting opportunity to gain expertise in a fast-growing, inclusive type of renewable energy development that provides benefits to subscribers and communities nationwide. The preferred candidate will have the ability to report in person to New Energy’s office in Roseville, MN for some meetings and events, although arrangements are flexible and most work can be completed remotely. New Energy’s offices in Maryland, New York and Colorado add additional flexibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Track state-level regulatory dockets, pending legislation, stakeholder working groups, and other sources to understand the nuances of state community solar markets
• Synthesize information from multiple sources to create detailed summaries of solar programs (e.g. policies, programs, rates, incentives, tax credits, renewable energy credits)
• Gather key financial information to inform the New Market Policy team’s analysis of emerging community solar markets and incorporate this information into financial modeling
• Clearly communicate policy findings to New Energy leadership, the policy team, and internal project teams in weekly meetings
• Identify and recommend new solar market opportunities based on policy factors, financial information, and geospatial data
• Write and file comments as applicable to influence regulatory dockets in accordance with goals of the Policy team
• Attend industry organization meetings to keep up to date with emerging developments in new state community solar programs, building consensus around solutions and advocating to improve new programs
• Attend industry organization events and conferences as applicable
• Assist with administrative tasks, including but not limited to taking meeting notes and submitting RFP materials (Requests for Proposals)
• Employ effective communication and interpersonal skills required in order to establish and maintain strong working relationships.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field AND 3+ years experience in energy field, or a Master’s Degree in Energy Policy, Law, Business, or related major
• Interest in community solar development and energy policy
• Superior attention to detail
• Computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite Skills (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work with a variety of people in changing situations
• Ability to work independently on multiple projects
• Candidates may be subject to assessment of skills, job match, or aptitude
• Preferred: Demonstrated work experience in electricity/renewables sector, including project finance analysis experience
• Preferred: GPA of 3.75 or higher in most recent University degree program
• Preferred: Experience with GIS mapping software (e.g. ArcGIS)
