Job Description
The Community Engagement Associate position at Climate Corps offers a fellowship opportunity focused on climate justice and sustainability initiatives. This hybrid role, based in Concord or San Rafael, CA, requires two onsite days and three remote days per week. The associate will engage with communities, support outreach efforts, and build partnerships to enhance access to clean energy solutions in underserved areas. The fellowship lasts 12 months, starting June 2nd, 2025.

Do you want to empower communities and drive meaningful change in the fight against climate change? As a Community Engagement Associate in the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you'll help expand access to sustainability programs, support climate justice initiatives, and build partnerships that bring clean energy solutions to underserved communities. This hybrid position is based in either Concord, CA, or San Rafael, CA, depending on the Fellow's proximity, with an expectation of two onsite days per week and three remote days.
In this role, you'll play a key role in supporting education and advancing climate justice in underserved communities throughout Marin Clean Energy's (MCE) service area. The fellow will also support the Senior Partnership Development Manager in building a robust portfolio of diverse partnerships that will bring MCE initiatives to underserved communities. This position includes the following duties: reaching out to stakeholders throughout the community, including coordination and partnership with community organizations; educating the public on the causes and solutions to climate change; representing MCE in a variety of public events; supporting development of equity project proposals and identification of new equity initiative opportunities; and project and customer management. You'll collaborate with Public Affairs to support education and advance climate justice in local underserved communities while gaining hands-on experience and making a tangible difference in the climate sector.

About Our Partner: Marin Clean Energy (MCE)
MCE is a not-for-profit public agency and the preferred electricity provider for more than 580,000 customer accounts and 1.5 million residents and businesses across Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, and Solano counties. Setting the standard for clean energy in California since 2010, MCE leads with 100% renewable power at stable rates, significantly reducing greenhouse emissions and reinvesting millions in local programs.
What You'll Do
• Attending community events as a representative of MCE.
• Supporting engagement in priority communities and with vulnerable populations across MCE's service area.
• Supporting outreach for and coordination of MCE's Community Power Coalition.
• Coordinating community outreach efforts, including outreach strategy, marketing materials, and event staffing.
• Supporting administrative tasks as needed, including tracking the status of projects and goals in project management software.
What We're Looking For
• Exhibit strong interpersonal and phone etiquette skills, verbal communications, and grammatical and professional business skills.
• Experience conducting community outreach and education.
• Public speaking skills.
• Ability to cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse and dynamic constituencies and customer groups.
• Ability to work accurately and swiftly under pressure.
• Ability to successfully manage multiple projects.
• A college degree is preferred but not required.
• Coursework or related experience in environmental fields (e.g., internships, volunteer work) is preferred.
• A valid driver's license and consistent access to a reliable vehicle are required for this role, as it involves the ability to transport tabling materials including a pop tent, 6 ft folding table, and other materials (mileage reimbursed).
• Ability to travel to multiple community locations throughout the MCE service area (Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, and Solano counties) to attend community events (mileage reimbursed).
• Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours with advance notice (additional hours worked outside of regular business hours may be adjusted during the workweek).
• Ability to work on a hybrid basis (onsite work 2 days per week and remote 3 days per week).
• A demonstrated commitment to addressing racism and advancing racial equity, both within team dynamics and programmatically.
• Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
• May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
