Job Description
The Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment is seeking a Communications and Outreach Associate based in Bengaluru, India. The role involves supporting conservation initiatives in Arunachal Pradesh and Karnataka, developing communication strategies, managing content, and engaging with communities. Candidates should have a degree in a related field and at least two years of experience in communications. The position requires field travel and offers a salary of ₹40,000–₹50,000 per month.

About the Projects
This position supports two pioneering conservation and community engagement initiatives:
• Siang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh:
Aims to reduce ecosystem disruption and increase community participation in conservation planning across the Indian Himalayan Region. The project works closely with local communities to promote sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem restoration.
2. Bagepalli, Karnataka:
A community-led restoration initiative focused on reviving degraded grazing commons (gomalas). The project integrates ecological restoration with improved rural livelihoods, especially for marginal farmers and pastoralists in semi-arid regions..
Location: Bangalore, with field travel to Siang (Arunachal Pradesh) and Bagepalli (Karnataka)
Responsibilities
• Develop and implement communication strategies to raise visibility and engagement for both projects.
• Create and manage content for blogs, newsletters, websites, and social media.
• Liaise with media, community members, and collaborators for outreach and impact.
• Document field activities through visual storytelling, interviews, and short features.
Community and Partner Engagement.
• Support the design and dissemination of outreach materials in multiple languages, including regional/local dialects when required.
• Assist in organizing on-ground outreach and awareness events.
Event Coordination & Support
• Manage documentation for events in both project locations.
Monitoring & Reporting
• Track engagement metrics to assess communication effectiveness.
• Design attractive periodic reports, presentations, and impact summaries for donors
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Media, Public Relations, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in communications, public engagement, or a similar role.
• Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in managing digital platforms, website CMS, and design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite).
• Proficiency in using a camera for images and videos, and in video editing.
• Strong storytelling and content creation skills for diverse audiences.
• Ability to manage deadlines across multiple projects and stakeholders.
• Passion for ecological restoration, conservation, and working with local communities.
• Willingness to travel to field sites in Arunachal Pradesh and Karnataka.
Remuneration
Remuneration: ₹40,000–₹50,000 per month (commensurate with experience)
